Sony: Borderlands 2 on PS Vita is "SO GOOD"

PlayStation's Adam Boyes doesn't hold back his enthusiasm for upcoming portable game.

The PlayStation Vita version of Gearbox Software's 2012 hit Borderlands 2 is apparently really good, going by comments made this week by PlayStation vice president of publisher and developer relations Adam Boyes.

"I was playing a ton of Borderlands 2 Vita this week. SO GOOD," Boyes said on Twitter.

Unfortunately, that's all the information Boyes wanted to provide about the PS Vita version of Borderlands 2, which launches sometime this spring alongside the new slim model.

The $200 Borderlands 2 PS Vita bundle will include the new system, copy of the game (featuring cross-save and all DLC packs), and an 8GB memory card.

Borderlands 2 for PS Vita is a collaborative effort between 2K, Sony, and Iron Galaxy Studios, the independent developer behind fighting game Divekick. Borderlands 2 for consoles and PC has shipped over 7.5 million copies to date.

From Divekick to Borderlands2? Clearly that's a huge undertaking and I wouldn't be surprised if it fell short of expectations as a result. On the flip side, Someone from Sony actually having something positive to say about the game may be a good sign that things may be different from their last two fps games with NIhilistic.

As much as I want to get hyped up for this game, I'll wait until I see some gameplay footage first.

It's SO GOOD that they are loathe to release any gameplay footage!

I'm really interested to see how well it runs/looks.  Absolutely nothing has interested me on the vita in a long time... If tearaway was $15 I'd buy it but I'm not paying $40 for a 6 hour game with no level creation tools.

I might get BL2 on vita despite owning it on PC just to see if anyone can release a FPS worth buying on the damn thing.

What I want to know is if this game is going to support Cross-Play. it would be nice if I could play with my mates who are on the PS3 playing Borderlands 2 while I use the Vita for my own screen.

Cross save? What if you don't have DLCs on your PS3?

I hope they announce a confirmed release date soon.  They've been hyping it up more than long enough by now, time to release the date & show some official gameplay trailer footage.

If the game comes with all the dlc I may pick it up but I own the game on my ps3 already with all the dlc soo idk.

If they have ran this deal with the original PSVita and included a 16GB card for $200, they would have sold like crazy. No one wants the inferior PSVita Slim version. Sure the battery life is longer, but the screen s worse. I think there are only Wifi PSVita's now. Do they even have the 3G version anymore? I'm happy with my original PSVita and wish I had the dough to buy a 2nd original unit.

Notice it's a Sony rep who says it's good.

Sorry, no desire to get a portable that's not portable.

I want this to be good, I really do but I am highly suspect of this game now. We saw this before with CoD Declassified on Vita, they hyped it up, did a special bundle but we saw nothing in terms of gameplay or even screenshots from the Vita version anywhere. It's happening again, if the game is in a playable state that Sony execs have copies of it then why have no screens or trailers including in game footage been released to the public?

This is beyond fishy and I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Could be a good game. I just cant get into playing these games alone, it's like the fun factor is gone and it doesn't hold my attention for long.
Though I do love playing borderlands with friends. I've had a lot of fun doing that on the consoles. The thing is, I don't know many who own a Vita. One game simply isn't enough "for many" to run to the store and shell out $200.

Well it's not like Sony is going to say "Oh it is terrible, don't even bother purchasing it because it is that bad."

Looking forward to playing this on my vita. The cross save with my ps3 version is a fantastic feature.

Can't wait for this. I've used my vita a lot more since the ps4 came out. It's pretty fun to take whatever game i'm playing anywhere. The ps plus games on the vita are really good too. I recommend getting the nyko grips with the extended battery, makes it a lot more comfortable to hold.

Oh really Sony? Because you said a game is good on your system that automatically justifies it?

Borderlands 2 is good but not good enough to make me go out and buy a VITA. VITA is a powerful handheld but with no games that I want to play. For those who have a VITA and never played Borderlands 2 then go ahead and get it.

What else could they say? That it was a mediocre experience, not worth your time? Come on people, this is hardly news.

Maybe this is why my Vita is still hanging around... I think this might work quite well on the Vita, cell shaded graphics etc...

Another port ... I hope it will play little better than KillZone but anyway I have it PS3 and I still play it.

I don't know if I'll actually bother getting the Vita version, but I'm primary interested on how it ends up (ie. is it the real thing or a heavily condensed version). If it provides the full Borderlands experience (except PhysX of course) then this would at least flag to other publishers "hey look, the Vita can actually do a real AAA game".

We'll see.

I liked Borderlands 2 on 360, but I don't want to play it all over again on Vita. What I enjoyed on home console is playing co-op, which makes it much more fun. Even if the co-op option were included on Vita, it's only available to me at home. I'd rather it have been a brand new adventure, but then it would have ended up being a very scaled down version of Borderlands, just like every other game which is squeezed onto handheld.

JimmyThreeBalls
JimmyThreeBalls

I would love to see BL2 on a handheld, but I don't see how I could enjoy it without Physx. Because without it, the effects from explosions , particle and what comes out of the guns is next to none! I tried to play on PS3 after that, and it just broke immersion! I don't see why every platform can't enjoy the effects!.....especially the sparks from a Maliwan and the Gravity granade that creates a cyclone that pulls in all the debris, shrapnel, and the enemies! Just Awesome.

I don't mind spending another 70 hours in the vita version of this game

Its dumb stuff like this that is making Sony go bankrupt.

How about offering a reduced price on the vita itself which you can now make cheaper without offering me a memory card that will be used up right by an old game that's digital, therefore saving them further money by not including a physical copy.

@poopinpat  Killzone Mercenary was a FPS worth buying on "the damn thing" :P

BradBurns

@VenkmanPHD  I got the Crystal White Vita with a 4GB Card. It's basically only good for physical games, which I don't really mind since I never buy digital. But still 4GB was pretty lame.

@ALLoY1717  Took the words right out of my mouth Mr. Owl. I LOVE Borderlands 2, but I'm not sold on this port just yet for all the reasons you mentioned above.

I checked it out, not a bad price I think I'll pick one up. Thx for the tip!

The nyko grip is awesome. I have large hands and playing without it was really awkward.

@FlameEmperor  I guess you don't have a xbox one by this comment. People should get a xbox one just because of Titanfall, they should just play it on PC or xbox 360

What was wrong with killzone mercenaries? I thought it played great.

Sevenizz

My IPhone is potable. It can fit it in my shirt pocket - play games in 5 minute intervals at my desk, durable enough to take a fall on occasion, and most software costs under 5 bucks with just about as much depth as anything on a Vita.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

While I'm not a fan of Square Enix games - there's plenty of their Final Fantasy JRPGs available. There's also a World of Warcraft clone called Order & Chaos that'll rival most current console counterparts in terms of 'depth'.

NoahRoalson
NoahRoalson

@Sevenizz  That was plain ignorant. A Vita is more portable than tablets and just as portable as some larger phones. Also, if you think a 5$ iPhone game has "depth" you are mistaken.

JachAnen
JachAnen

@canuckbiker Yup. And look at the most popular ones. They are crap to say the least. Some are okay, but the games you can get for the Vita are way better than any mobile game.

canuckbiker
canuckbiker

Yeah that last statement is a complete lie. I have played some very wonderful, involving games on my vita. Phone games are shallow and simple for the most part.

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@Sevenizz Also, the vita is HIGHLY portable.

No you can't carry it in your shirt pocket, but if you actually wear a shirt with POCKETS on the front of it you have WAY bigger problems than what device you carry.

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@Sevenizz Seriously? Have you even played a vita game? "As much depth"
