Sonic Dash revealed

iOS endless running game coming to App Store for iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad "soon."

Sega today announced Sonic Dash, an endless running game due to launch in the App Store for iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPod "soon." No mention was made of a release for Android or a price.

Sonic Dash is based in 3D space and allows gamers to compete against friends through leaderboards.

The game was developed by the Sega-owned Hardlight Studios, which also built the recent Sonic Jump for iOS and Android.

You know Sega, I get that mobile games are cheap and easy and almost always turn a profit but Sonic deserves better than this.  Yeah I'm glad you're not cranking out 5-6 medicore console games each year but come on no one cares about this crappy little mobile game.  If it's like Sonic Jump, I'll pass.

FFS sega stop being so much greedy and work on actual sonic games

we still want a Sonic Adventure 3 and i still want another sonic rivals (make one for the PS vita)

and sega is just trying to make a quick buck by going to the casual market (the touchpad gamers)

Well do you expect guys? Sega has massive money problems. Why do you think they told platinum to go to Nintendo to Publish Bayonetta 2? Because they cant support it with their money problems and their and gearbox's recent failure of an Aliens game isnt helping

Wow Sega will sell out sonic to anyone who will throw them a few dollars. Its sad what he has become.

I think a mobile Temple Run type game is a perfect fit for Sonic's speeding around. Of the more recent Sonic games I have played the controls were super-simple one button times presses. This could translate well.

I wouldn't be happy with a Temple Run clone with Sonic characters. They need to take some ideas from the 2D side-scrolling adventures and use them to make the game unique as well as provide some depth.

I would love to see a proper return of Sonic, but I think his best days on the consoles are behind us. His formula is better fit for mobile. He might even find new popularity there if they don't mess up this opportunity.

Sega needs to reevaluate their whole Sonic and friends franchise. This isn't funny anymore.

Everyone, just remember this. We all complain about Mario and Nintendo, but this is what happens when a company sells out for $. Sonic should have died years ago. Nintendo will never let this happen to Mario.

I sure they will release it to android. Most games comes to iphone first, and then after some time it eventually come to android.

Sega how about a new Sonic game please just for once and not some app game. Sonic Generation was fun but since we are going to next-gen, I expect Sega to have a new Sonic game ready for next-gen.

@kbaily most sonic console games were better then the cheap 3DS ports

but i agree, going to the casual market is just gonna trash sonic again

@thequickshooter nothing wrong with them making a quick buck...temple run is one of the best iOS games and clearly this is going to be very similar. and with a familiar character like sonic, could be cool. They are a business after all.

But i'm with you. I'm wanting Adventure 3. Hopefully the game they are working on for Wii U is Adventure 3 or something similar. I'm glad Sega was figuring it out the past two main games though. Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations give me hope for the future of Sonic.

@hotdiddykong Now you can see Nintendo "Eating" another Legendary character for Their next Super Smash Bros without skipping a beat -_- !

@Takeno456He's been on every console since SEGA left the console market. Mobile games were always in the pipes for SEGA not even a year since they left. It's only surprising this game didn't come out much sooner.

I suspect the increase in popularity and much increased performance power of smart phones since GS3 and iPhone 3 and 4, that SEGA decided it they could make a decent Sonic Rings style handheld game.

I feel you on the lack of quality games from SEGA in the Sonic related end. Sonic Generations was fantastic! Then, you started making your way to Sonic 2006 and up levels... It was literally reliving SEGA's failure days all over again, topped off only by the worst coded and useless tag system put into it. Dumbest boss in the history of Sonic games *EVER*.

Aside from that, it let me know SEGA is still somehow capable of releasing a quality Sonic game. They just hate having to admit their new ways of going about it suck. Here is to a Sonic Gen 2 or possibly the release of that Flying Battery Zone they cut out before release.

@Kjranu

Colors, Generations, and if you wanna count Sonic All Stars Racing transformed. All great games.

This is a spin off for a quick cash grab, no need to be dramatic.

@baxwam And Temple Run was "inspired" by Canabalt, which was "inspired" by a minigame in Warioland 4.

So if you want to get really technical, this game will be inspired by unnecessary filler material tacked on to artificially pad out playtime and make a game seem longer than it is.

Sega is always developing a new mainstream Sonic game, that's how they manage to release 1 mainstream game per 18 months on average. In November, a Sega representative did mention that 2013 would see, among others, a new boxed Sonic game. If they follow the same "route" as they did with Generations, they will be teasing/announcing it officially around the first week of April (Generations was teased on April 7th 2011). And Sega being Sega, they will aim to release it in time for Thanksgiving, possibly reducing time spent debugging it.

Well, technically Bayonetta does have a skyrocketed chance, but i doubt it.

And how would it be "Eating", it supports them more actually

@telaros @Takeno456 Idk Sonic Generations was straight it was solid compared to it's more recent predecessors it might seem amazing but as a game alone it's just okay.

Indeed but Sega is just using Sonic as a sales target in a world of Apps which is just lazy when they could take that money into making a good Sonic game.

@EasyComeEasyGo i realy doubt the put alot of money in to this, even so it will likely be realy fun. i love app games that involve you running endlessly to see how far you can get. im acttualy suprised sonic hasnt shown up sooner for this.
