Some Destiny Limited Edition Preorders Canceled Due To High Demand

Best Buy letting some shoppers know that they won't get their limited edition due to supply shortages.

North American retail giant Best Buy alerted shoppers this week that it had to cancel some preorders for the Destiny Limited Edition as a result of too much demand.

"The popularity of Destiny Limited Edition exceeded the quantities made available to Best Buy," the retailer said, according to an email posted on the Destiny subreddit (via IGN). "As a result, we are unable to fulfill all of the preorders received."

To make it up to shoppers, Best Buy is offering $50 in store credit toward the purchase of the Destiny Digital Guardian Edition or the Standard Edition. The Destiny Limited Edition sells for $100 and includes the game, a special steelbook, the Destiny expansion pass (featuring two add-ons), and various digital content.

Best Buy's cancellation of orders for the Destiny Limited Edition comes after another major retailer, Wal-Mart, did the same for the Ghost Edition. This $150 bundle is currently tough to find, and as a result, the bundles are selling for major markups on eBay.

Destiny launches September 9 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

halo and mass effect or Xeno blade ripoff cant they all be a little more creative :/ ...I mean really another first person shooter that's all they are releasing. the demo is no where near open world that's false advertising. the only reason why any one would buy this game is because that's all they have to play on the ps4 any ways.

I wish Destiny would make more Limited Editions available.

Biggest thing that needs to stop that causes shortages is people buy multiple copies just to massively mark them up and resell them. That being said there is no reason for this shortage, it sure as hell isn't a money issue as activision is the wealthiest game publisher in the world. As for the it's limited so it will be collectible thats bs too games become collectible not there special editions and not the little toys that come with them. You don't see people dying to get there hands on the RC XD that came with BO1 prestige edition.

IMO it's just a bad business move on the part of bungie to immediately piss off a large portion of there audience.

The old 'it's so popular we can't keep up' marketing release... All it says to me is that they weren't confindent of the product until they tested the market. Properly project-managed games satisfy the demand just right (Skyrim etc.)

Got my GHOST edition reserved the morning after it was announced, and thank God I called Gamestop before they even opened, they already had several preorders before I did

We can't supply them, but our employees will however sell them on ebay for $50 over the retail price (lol)@USA....

I love how every time I ask about a very popular game gameshops always tell me that I HAVE to preorder it or Ill never get my hands on it on the release day. I never preorder and still get it on release day, GTAIV, GTAV, GoW, BF games etc.

Gotta feed those sheeple.

I really don't care about Destiny, so I'm asking this because I just don't know. What's so special about this edition of the game? Is there like some stupid special gun or some dumb camo or special map or character skin? What would make me want to get this version of this game than just the standard version? Am I going to miss something from the game if I don't get the "limited edition"?

So piss the customer off by cancelling their order, or piss them off by not getting it to them on time.

it's called the "i gotta have it first" generation.

sheep hopping on the hype train.....all the time.

they fuelled the nowadays DLC phenomenon as well.

gaming has reached a sad state of affairs.

Limited Edition, Digital Guardian Edition, Ghost Edition, Standard Edition -- what's the difference between all of these?  I can't tell if these gamers are getting shafted or not.

Why won't you people stop preordering games. No one preordered 8-bit games, no one preordered 16-bit games, no one preordered games on 32-bit systems either...yet somehow we all managed to play them. Oh I forgot you're all sheep now and simply can't resist the prerelease marketing campaigns.

I'm not surprised. This is why I don't pre-order anything from Best Buy or Wal-Mart.

PlatinumPaladin

Yeah, it's retarded that Best Buy were allowing people to pre-order games that they hadn't been allocated, but $50 credit where credit's due you wouldn't get that much from most other retailers.

The Destiny beta was fun?

Hey you know that thing you paid a bunch of money for? Well, we aren't going to give it to you and there's nothing you can do about it! Wow, way to be a complete asshole Best Buy. Here's a tip: don't sell things you don't have. It's pretty simple.

Great game based on Alpha/Beta. I preordered my LE at Gamespot. September 9th can't come fast enough.

One more reason why PS and XBOX suck. If you pre-order a PC game from Steam they won't cancel your pre-order because it's f*******g digital.

@fig56 Mostly it just includes a special case and the season pass DLC. Each version has it's own unique DLC weapons/ammo but they likely aren't anything special.

@theKSMM

Standard - disc only -  is just the game itself with some exclusives to ps4 only or if you get xbox there is a timed delay for exclusives,

Digital Guardian - Digital download only with the DLC's attached $89.99 and again on ps3/4 only,

Limit Edition - Standard game disc plus a book of weapons we will have access to plus ones we didn't in beta ,  steel book and DLC and some other goodies that are for the destiny fan base like a patch you can wear and some other items -   $99.99 ( ebay is over $250 )

ghost edition  -  Everything that you get with the limited edtion -   plus you get a motion sensor Ghost replica toy that lights up and has peter dinklage say phrases,  a special welcome letter and some 3d cars...  normal price $149.99,  on ebay,  there are bid's that exceed $1000 for this...

over 4.5 mil people were playing on july 26th...     Some people say this may be bigger than even COD ( Considering the COD AW - Pro edition for all consoles are STILL available < go on www.gamestiop.com > and destiny has been sold out to the point of pre-orders being canceled because they cant make them fast enough for the launch )

whatever the hype is about this game,  it is huge.. so for people to hate it..  4.5 million others obviously love it...   for those that hate it..  then of course they're entitled to their own opinions and of course there are other games out there that suit their interests...    in the end,  a game is just a game

@thrombosis45 I preorder for the physical bonuses.

BF4: Dogtags and a steel case.
BF Hardline: A moneyclip (and probably a steel case).
Infinity 2.0: You get a free figure($15 value).
Little Big Planet 3: Sackboy plushie.

The list goes on. That's why I personally pre-order.

Um preorders has been around since the 80s at specialty shops. Where you been?

@PlatinumPaladin Yes that $50 is actually insanely high.  In Canada, when Best Buy or Future Shop screws up an order like this, the standard amount they give you is $5 :).

Yes. It was fantastic and more polished than 96% of most retail released games. At least it was Awesome on ps4. I didn't get to try the xbox one version. The e Destiny beta was in 1080p on the ps4 tho

@Patohua1 Paid a bunch of money for?  I pre-ordered the standard game about a month ago and they have yet to charge me...I assume it will charge once it is available for pickup.  Not sure what money these people have spent.

Patohua1
Patohua1

@Lash540 Yeah, the Alpha and Beta started that. I know it may be difficult for someone cynical like you to grasp, but games actually CAN deliver sometimes. It's rare, for sure, but some actually do live up to expectations.

Patohua1
Patohua1

@aekaekaekaekaek umm yeah actually it can. It happened literally like 2 weeks ago lol. There was a batch of codes that turned out to be sold by 3rd party retailers that didn't have permission to and they had to cancel the orders. I don't even think people got their money back.

nolgeo

@aekaekaekaekaek But you don't get the physical collectors stuff! The Xbox One and PS4 both have Digital orders too.

Unfair to compare the two as they aren't even close to being the same.

One is a fun arcade shooter and the other is a boring MMO.

You sound like a perfect marketing shill - good job Activision Marketing.

No. PC Beggar race doesn't even have a release date yet on PC. I think a majority of PC gamers are canoed out in front of Rockstar begging for GTA5 on PC. Ha ha lol

@smokeless_0225 @aekaekaekaekaek lol!! Right. You can preorder it for XB1 and PS4 as well. I could care less about the Limited Edition. I'm just getting the PS4 version and calling it a day.

@grenadehh @mangakid @thrombosis45

You had the the ability to pre order at Software Etc. for a long time. The problem was they didn't really do many of them as they usually got more then enough to fill orders.

The SNES was a huge pre order otherwise you had to wait to get one.

But hey....at least they can play their crap/late selection of games in better graphics if they can keep their hardware up to date...lol!

Although I can't say too much...I do game on PC every now and then. However PS4 is my primary console and I prefer any "cross-console" games on it over my PC.

smokeless_0225
smokeless_0225

@blackace

Well I'm a sucker for getting the CE on games that I think are going to be good. In this case, I was able to play the Alpha and the Beta and I convinced myself (true or not) that I could be playing this game for a while after it releases. If that is the case, then I will want the DLC. The "expansion pass" is $35 so if you combine that with the standard edition price of the base game ($60) you are looking at paying just $5 more than normal for just switching to the LE.

So, essentially, for $5 I am upgrading to a steelbook case, the folio, some other collector's items, and an in-game emblem/skin that I wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. May not be worth it to some...but it was only $5 more than what I wanted in the first place.
