Many PlayStation 3 owners may have been vexed earlier today by the unscheduled downtime for a portion of Sony's PlayStation Network. While online gaming was still enabled, Sony temporarily took offline the PlayStation Store, account management, and registration. The good news is that the PlayStation Network is once again functioning as intended. Potentially even better news? PS3 gamers can now purchase and download SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation.

The latest edition of SOCOM, created by Slant Six after series creators Zipper Interactive were given command of MAG, has been available at retail since Tuesday, bundled with a specially designed Bluetooth headset for $59.99. The downloadable edition of the online-only shooter requires 2.65GB of hard disc space and clocks in $20 cheaper than its bundled counterpart. GameSpot's previous coverage has more information on Sony's shooter.

Earlier today, MTV Games finally dated the PS3 edition of Rock Band 2, saying it would arrive on Sony's flagship platform this Sunday, October 19. Greeting PS3 gamers who make the plunge into Harmonix's latest rhythm game, as well as original Rock Band holdovers, will be Motley Crue's chart-topping 1989 album Dr. Feelgood. The 10-song playable album includes such Crue classics as "Dr. Feelgood," "Without You," and "Kickstart My Heart" and can be purchased in its entirety for $15.99. Individual tracks can be had for $1.99 a piece.

Sony's internally developed interactive collectible card game Eye of Judgment expands for a third time this week with Biolith Rebellion 3. The downloadable add-on includes 100 new creatures, spells, and abilities and is available for $14.99. Penny-wise gamers can pick up the pack alongside the second expansion for $19.99. EA provides the second piece of downloadable content added to Sony's online store this week, as the Spyglass Hill Golf Course for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is now available for $7.49.

MotorStorm Pacific Rift is the sole representative for new demos added to the PSN this week. The Pacific Rift free sampler includes the Raingod Spires map, and players can hop into three different vehicles for both single- and multiplayer races.

Nostalgia-seeking gamers can pick up the original PlayStation game Sno-Cross Championship Racing for $5.99, which is playable on both the PS3 and PSP. Also available for the PSP this week are full-game downloads for Dead Head Fred and PQ2: Practical Intelligence Quotient (both $14.99), as well as a demo for Lego Batman.
