SNK Playmore to replace glitched Card Fighters DS

US arm of Japanese publisher to replace first-run game cartridges with show-stopping bug by mail.

by

Gamers frustrated by a bug in SNK vs. Capcom Cardfighters DS, take heart. Over the weekend, a message board post on the official SNK Playmore Web site authored by SNK Playmore USA president Ben Herman indicated that the company is aware of a show-stopping bug that occurs on the ninth level of the US version of the game the second time it is played. (The game is playable all the way through in story mode, and it can be played afterward for additional cards until players reach level nine and duel with a certain character, which causes the game to lock up.)

According to the message board post from Herman, the company has ordered replacement cartridges from Nintendo, which "will take approximately six weeks" for SNK Playmore to receive by mail. Game owners who wish to exchange their games for fixed copies are advised not to return them to stores, but to hold on to them until SNK Playmore publicizes the address to which they should be sent for replacement.

Card Fighters DS is the follow-up to a pair of SNK vs. Capcom card battle games for SNK's NeoGeo Pocket Color handheld. For more information on the game, consult GameSpot's review.

Good, I knew SNK wouldn't let me down.

DoctorFu, I completely agree with you, especially if the Beta testers only tested the game once through. Then they never would have found the bug to report it.

Last i heard, the game was flawed in that the player who went first, got all the advantages, even to the point where people were flaunting the ability to do a turn 2/3 win. Is that still present?

Kudos to SNK! I'm pretty sure it was Sega that said on their NFL Dreamcast game: "We think the game is so great and awesome, that it overshadows the glitches and bugs that are present". Not many companies would go this far, most would just say "tough ****" and you'd be left with a worthless cartridge or disc.

Umm.. I played this game... besides the glitch in the game, my personal opinion is that this whole game is 'glitched'.

The game is pretty good aside from the glitch. I guess you gotta be a fan of the previous. Maybe they should give us something else because they screwed us the first time.

YukoAsho, it's quite possible that a bug like this can get through. Sometimes testers have a step by step routine that they follow to the letter. Sometimes they deviate, but if they're on a tight schedule they might not have time to fully test the game. The big thing here is that they're fixing their mistake..

Thank goodness. I was starting to think I would have to find an Action Replay Code to bypass the area.

Well, at least they're doing the right thing. That's more than some other companies can say...

I can't help but think that this would never have happened if Capcom was releasing the game. I guess that's why Capcom > SNK.

Sounds like just a bad batch of game cards to me. It has happened before with some SNES/NES, and N64 games. No big deal. However, YukoAsho is right this kind of thing could of easly been cought in testing if the companies testers were doing their jobs.

Diablobasher is right. There's absolutely no reason for a bug like this to make it past beta testing, especially on a niche title like this. Makes you think that QA didn't even bother looking at the title.

At least SNK cares. I like them.

It's nice to see SNK addressing this problem, but it would have been a better idea not to release a broken version of the game in the first place.

What I'm wondering is how I can tell the difference between new "fixed" carts in the stores, and the old stock... I held off buying the game because of the bug, but I don't know how I'll feel safe about buying the game unless I can be sure I'm getting the right one.

They should let us send them our game cards so SNK could patch them to add a damn online mode, which is what people really hoped for out of it in the first place...

At least SNK is willing to fix the problem rather than ignore it like most video game companies these days. Good thing I got the Japanese version awhile back ^.^.

if they really wanted to do gamers a service, they should replace the game with a better one. burn!!!!

Perhaps SNK could also fix the game's other bugs; you know the ones where the wifi is mysteriously absent and the game's mechanics were needlessly overhauled from the original.

Such sloppy testing. Shame on SNK.

Actually, this can happen on the first play through as well. If you happen to talk to the same character twice.

Does anyone remember Super Street FIghter II Turbo Revival for the GBA? Pretty much almost every American copy had a glitch where all the winning battle text was wrong, due to someone not understanding the names were different in the US. And then when you'd get to Akuma the game would glitch and fry the memory in the cartridge. I gotta give props the SNK for replacing them, because all Capcom did back then was offer credit towards Alpha 3 for GBA, which was a disgusting port, and shortly after the game was completely removed from the Capcom America website, instead of fixed.

Quite incredible that this bug wasn't caught up during neither SNK testing nor Nintendo certification testing ! Ah well, that's what happens when you outsource your QA........

//SonicHomeboy It's not the first time actually, there was a game called "bubble bobble Revolution" suffered much crazier glitch in the game, and i heard they did replace it. It's funny that game like bubble bobble rev or SNK vs CAP Card game which are under average games (especially BBR was almost abysmal) only suffers this kind of problem. Capcom shouldve made this game man.

Wow. This is the first time I've heard this happen to a DS game.
