Snipers confirmed for Titanfall, but quick-scoping and no-scoping are "ineffective"

Respawn says sniping in upcoming online shooter is a "pretty different animal" compared to other military shooters.

Like most military shooters, Titanfall will feature sniper rifles. But the way these weapons work in the game will vary drastically from what players have come to expect in Call of Duty or Battlefield games, Respawn said on the game's forums recently.

"Sniping is in the game, but due to how the game plays it's a pretty different animal than you'll find in your run of the mill modern military shooter," a Respawn representative said. "Quick-scoping and no-scoping are ineffective."

Quick-scoping and no-scoping are methods by which players can dramatically increase their fire rate and lethality by manipulating the way virtual rifles work. It's not clear, however, what systems Respawn has in place for Titanfall to make no-scoping and quick-scoping ineffective.

Answers are likely to come soon, as Titanfall's March 11 launch date is just three months away now. For more on Titanfall, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I think I'll have to wait and see if this is true. The devs for CoD: Ghosts said they had eliminated quick-scoping but it's still very much alive and well.

I think I read about this somewhere else. I thought they said it would be extremely difficult because of how fast everyone moves.

I may be wrong.

i imagine that they accomplish this by making the scope in animation lengthier rather than instantaneous and by making hip fire wildly inaccurate. motion sway to probably

I think a sniper rifle shouldn't be possible to use in close range effectively

I really find snipers somewhat annoying, particularly in Battlefield. If they manage to avoid sniper rifle abuse smartly, here's my money!

quick and no scoping started and ended in mw2.  it was the only game it was proper in.  I don't see where any relation to battlefield is in this article since COD is the only game that had that crap.

Doesn't matter.  As soon as people see a sniper has joined their team they will all start to whine, tell them not to snipe, complain that they aren't running down the middle getting killed like everyone else, and see how they can get them booted.  Just like in every other multi-player shooter.

What with everyone wanting games to be open-world and semi MMO SP/MP hybrids (i.e. gameworlds with a larger scope) then no-scoping has no place, because the name no-scoping itself contradicts a larger scope.

Frankly, this is nothing but a good thing.

Nothing worse than being on a decent kill streak and having some moron quick scope you, that and laggy gamers ruin he experiance sometimes. Guns done kill people, lag does.

I still don't get the hype surrounding this game. Once the novelty of giant robots and parkour wears out, it will reveal itself to be a generic CoD-like fps

Good. I hate that quick scoping shit.

How exactly do you quick scope and no scope? I think I had heard of quick scope but I had no idea what it was.

Oh fancy words with nothing backing them up, well after years of this kind of shit, it would be nice if a fps finally did try to do something about it.

Don't know why anyone is excited about this game. It could be fantastic, but it won't be........ Thanks EA

It will probably be a charge up rifle.  Which is just crap by the way.

I suppose some people have already mentioned Team Fortress 2's system that requires the Sniper to take time to charge up a shot.

Yet, I hope that Respawn is not that predictable, e.g. taking another idea from other games.

P.S. That system in Team Fortress 2 is not original either - I am well aware of that, if you are wondering. Such a system has been seen in even earlier games, like Jedi Knight 2.

With everyone flying around at high speeds doing acrobatic stunts, I have a hard time imagining a slower more methodical approach to sniping would be effective.  So, I wonder what it will be...

It might be like TF2 where one sniper rifle cant shoot when not aiming with scope and the sniper rifle that has weaker damage when shooting at the body.

@shadow580 depends on how close, if somebody is holding the barrel against your chest it should still work fine.

Draken_Domingo

@madgame23 Actually, it was most prominent in cod4 because it was actually a glitch that made the rifles more accurate the moment you scoped in. And as Poodger said, it's been around for years in fps gaming (the earliest I remember was Unreal Tournament, but even that might not be the earliest)

Poodger
Poodger

@madgame23It didn't start in CoD.... it has been around for YEARS. Hell, back in the first counter strike, there was quickscoping and no scoping.

I find that most people start to complain about snipers in a server when they make up the majority of your team, and not trying to PTFO.

Otherwise nobody cares about the odd sniper doing his/her job.

@Doom_HellKnight Do not for one second make the mistake that only children will cry out because of this. Surely we'll have plenty of adults doing the same.

@Earthen80 it's going to be like Starhawk/COD....I personally don't give a frack about shooters...just wake me up when they make another Rainbow Six, Socom(a good one lol) or a Star Wars Battlefront

Wasnt Lost Planet a game where you had giant robots and could fight on your own too?
Whats the difference? the jetpack?

It's only the original team that started the cod craze. Only the guys that created that heli crash scene where u think you're gonna live but instead die from radiation nothing meaningful here. It's not like it's a new IP in a new gen. Or even a break from the other modern based fps' s . I don't understand all the fuss either. -_-

@Earthen80I'm glad I'm not the only one confused here.

I didn't see anything that really looked that different from every other FPS deathmatch fest out there.

@tightwad34 You never watched one of those CoD videos on youtube where the guy barely looks down the scope but still manages to hit and kill the target.  No scope is essentially the same thing but you don't even look down the scope at all.

It's basically just taking advantage of the lack of ballistic simulations in most shooters.  In a game like Arma where the simulation is more realistic that pretty much is not possible.

FBohler

@Gelugon_baat  You should review your game history concepts. QWTF (QuakeWorld Team Fortress) was a Quake mod released in 1996. Jedi Knight II was released in 2002. FYI: the original TF already had the 'charge up' sniper.

Back into topic: making the snipers charge to reach top damage would be a lackluster IHMO. Could be nice if they managed to make accuracy and the focus of the lens increase as you steady the aim.

Marky360

Ps3gamer1234

But isn't that kinda dumb though I mean realistically you can fire a Sniper Rifle without aiming it and a body shot with a Sniper Rifle will likely be a kill shot much like a head shot would be so nerfing the rifle making it where body shots are ineffective would be counter-intuitive and really stupid.

Showing your age. These kids ain't got time fo' dat. No fps existed before halo cod and bf. This isn't a problem that's been around for ages. Bunny Hopping around and shooting is new too.

@yoda101280 @tightwad34 COD : you put a piece of tape right in the middle of your screen. Once an enemy is lined with your dot in the middle of your screen, you ''scope'' for 1 milisecond and press the fire button. Et voilà, you are a muthertrucking sniper and fudd you!

tightwad34

You could have helped me by including a link though, such as this one.

@Diegoctba @Gelugon_baat  May I ask why you think TF2 is horrible? I'm just curious.  In my view I think it's one of the most balanced, enjoyable and downright hilarious multiplayer shooters I've ever played, regardless of platform.

Some genres of games strive to achieve realism but it should never be at the cost of fun, or balance in the case of online games.

In other words, it's probably not for people who already dislike multiplayer-centric shooters. ;)

@LongGrimReaper Hey, wait a minute, take off that Giant Mech and Jetpack LeParkour stuff from the game!! It's sooooo unrealistic! How can someone play a game far far far from reality and have fun??
