Sniper: Ghost Warrior sells 1 million

City Interactive's coolly received headshot-happy shooter goes platinum since debuting on the Xbox 360 and PC in June; PlayStation 3 version targeted for March premiere.

City Interactive's Sniper: Ghost Warrior was not well received by critics, but it has earned a sales milestone many titles aim for--platinum status.

City Interactive's shooter sold well despite less-than-nice reviews.

City Interactive today sent word that Sniper: Ghost Warrior--a headshot-happy first-person shooter--has sold through 1 million units. The title debuted in late June and is currently available on the Xbox 360 and PC. A PlayStation 3 version is targeted to ship during March with a host of PS3-exclusive content like single-player missions, multiplayer maps, and sniper rifles.

Looking ahead, last month City Interactive announced its intention to craft a sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior as part of its Unreal/CryEngine deal. The publisher noted that the sequel will land on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC simultaneously.

I just bought it and liked it. Glad they are making a sequel and with the crytek 2 engine. Physics in the first one were nonexistent.

I've seen the list of updates gameplay-wise in the PC version of this game: is HUGE. Aimed to be easier and less Farcry1-ish (if you played this game youll know what I mean)

Never thought I would see this game hit 1 million

This just tells me there are 1 million annoying campers out there. As gratifying as it can be to snipe peeps from a hidden position, it is even MORE gratifying to sneak up and stab that sniper in the back without him even knowing you are there.

shows just how desperate gamers are for a decent Sniper title, the last one was Sniper Elite about 7 years ago,it boggles the mind why no devs have explored the sniping premise more,i can only deduce that its a taboo subject due to copycats doing it for real

Its not the best game in the world but its not as bad as you lot are making out. It had its quirks but with a bit of patients and altering your tactics i found it reasonably enjoyable. Dont get me wrong i did trade it in once i was done with the single player as sniping online just does not sound fun. so well done City Interactive, hope the next one is a bit more polished

LOL! Thats pretty sad...I guess it has a nice name and good enough cover to look decent...Surely at least 800k of these people had not played before buying, which I cant believe because who just pays full price without trying a game these days? I can play just about any shooter...give me new content I will go through it...But I rented Ghost Sniper and a good 20-30 minutes into it I realized its easily one of the crappiest most awful shooters to come out in recent times, comparable to Raven Squad...Damnation..pure trash this game is...

This lame @ss game sold a million? If you ask me that just proves there are a million morons out there who enjoy boring shooters. Don't get me wrong, I like a "Good" shooter. Crysis 2 looks Awesome...but this game just looks boring and has a million clones out there already.

The fact that Sniper went platinum despite bad reviews is probably a sign that people want other kinds of games than what is usually spewed out by the gaming industry today. There's virtually no game franchise these days that lets the player use old-school stealth as a primary gameplay method, and regardless of how the game actually played out, the title promised exactly that. Game developers should observe Sniper's unexpected success very carefully, and reconsider their production strategies thereafter.

This was supposed to be a Sniper game? I spent most of the game going full auto on people from 10 feet away. Last time I checked, that isn't sniping.

For the price you cant beat it. I actually liked the game. It is hard as hell, that is why I think people are giving it bad reviews. When you ramp up the difficulty the shots are extremely difficult to execute and stealth is not optional! Its not bad looking either, the environments are detailed and lush and the bullet cam headshots never get old for me. If you are looking for a Call of Doty arcade shooter then I suggest you just rent it or dont waste your time , you cannot run and gun. If you find this game enjoyable to play you should also check out Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising. It is an awesome military shooter with squad commands, time sensitive objectives and some pretty memorable missions. It is also hard as hell and when played on realistic is very frustrating but soooo rewarding. Some missions are an hour long and on realistic difficulty there are no check points, 58 minutes in and one Snipers bullet ruins your day.

I love it when something mediocre outsells much more deserving titles. That said, it isn't a bad game, just a budget one. The one good thing that could come out of this is that City Interactive may have the necessary cash to make higher quality games. Their conceptual work is in the right place, they just don't have the resources.

This just proves you can sell mediocre games by putting a title on the box consisting entirely out of key-words.

What it tells me is that people want to play a sniper game. The next installment of the series will probably be much better.

LOL... I was planning on picking this up. Now, I definitely will. It is bargain priced so you know you're not getting ripped off like Call of Duty ( PC version was $60 needlessly just to take advantage of buyer ). City Interactive makes fun bargain games. I've enjoyed their other offerings as well.
