Smite's Next Patch Adds a God Who Turns Into a Giant Dragon

Fafnir also earns gold more quickly and has a reason to then hang on to it.

Comments

The next update for Smite has been detailed, and 3.10's major addition is a new guardian-class character called Fafnir who transforms into a giant dragon.

Turning into a dragon is something that an existing character, Ao Kuang, can already do. But whereas he only does so in the sky for a brief moment after killing someone with his Ultimate, Fafnir uses his Ultimate to turn into a dragon who can then walk around and attack. Transforming poisons nearby enemies, and he then gains additional effects on his abilities and his basic attack turns into a special Dragon Breath attack. This dragon form lasts for a set duration or until it's activated again.

Now Playing: SMITE: Behind the Scenes - Fafnir, Lord of Glittering Gold

His regular abilities include Curse Strength, which does an attack in a straight line that deals damage and stuns the first enemy god it hits; the dragon version does extra damage and reduces protections. Coerce increases the attack speed of a nearby ally, heals Fafnir, and causes him to do more damage as his buffed teammate deal damage; the dragon form increases the area of effect and lets it buff multiple teammates. Underhanded Tactics lets him leap to a spot, doing damage and disarming enemies; the dragon form lets Fafnir jump further, deals more damage, and stuns the closest enemy.

Fafnir's passive, Endless Greed, is also noteworthy: As the Lord of Glittering Gold, he earns four extra gold from minions, structures, kills, and assists. Rather than spend it immediately, he benefits from holding on to it, as he gains bonus protections based on how much he has saved.

Elsewhere in the patch are a number of new skins, including one for Skadi that has her wearing skiing gear and another for Aphrodite that makes her look like a witch. You can see all of these in the gallery below.

There are also new achievements, tweaks to ranked play after the discovery that one side of the Conquest map was favoring its team, and changes to items and gods.

A few items, including Stone of Gaia, now offer more health than before. On the character side, Ratatoskr's Dart damage is being reduced, while Flurry will have a longer cooldown and reduce protections by less. Raijin's Thunder Crash is being tweaked to deal less damage, and Susano's Storm Kata has been adjusted to lessen how effective he is in the early game.

The full patch notes for 3.10 can be seen on Smite's website. The update should be available on PC soon, while Xbox One and PS4 players are still awaiting the 3.9 patch, which reworks Ratatoskr and launches the Viking Invasion event.
