Smite release date announced

Upcoming third-person MOBA will be released in March 2014.

Hi-Rez Studios has announced that its third-person multiplayer online battle arena Smite will be released on March 25, 2014.

Following the game's release, Hi-Rez will also be holding a $100,000 launch tournament at the studio's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The company will invite the top four European and US teams to compete.

Smite is currently in open beta, and all individual progress from the beta will carry over into the full game. Any player who reaches level 30 before March 25 will unlock the Cacodemon skin for Ymir, Hi-Rez Studios adds.

Hi-Rez Studios has previously worked on MMO Global Agenda and FPS Tribes: Ascend.

I enjoy smite a lot. Not only is the real world mythology interesting, but the third person perspective really helps. Especially with a controller.

After they basically said "see ya later" to the whole Tribes Ascend community and ditched support for that game I have no faith in this company.

OMG This game looks so much better now from when they did that Playing Now. Seriously if you haven't checked out Smite you really should! It plays differently then most MOBAs, but in a very good way.

Definitely my favorite MOBA.  I enjoy other games in the genre too, but none of them really give me the same thrill that Smite does.

I'm absolutely horrible at most MOBAs (especially DOTA 2) but Smite really clicked for me.  If you haven't checked this game out, I encourage you to do so, even if you are adverse to the MOBA scene.  It feels like an in-depth 3rd person shooter more than anything and I love it for that.
