Smash Bros. petition calls for Reggie Fils-Aime to be playable character

Newly launched online petition calls on Masahiro Sakurai to include Nintendo executive as playable character: Fils-Aime says, "If he wants, my body is ready."

A new Change.org petition calls on Super Smash Bros. designer Masahiro Sakurai to include Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS game as a playable character. The petition has over 7,000 signatures at press time.

"Many Nintendo fans have pleaded for Reggie to be in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games and he would be a unique character," reads a line from the petition. "He could use Nintendo controllers and characters to his advantage as attacks."

Fils-Aime has acknowledged that he is open to the idea of being included in the game, saying last month that if Sakurai thought it would be a good idea, "my body is ready."

If Sakurai does include Fils-Aime as a playable character, it won't be without giving the idea some serious thought. The designer previously described Smash Bros. roster selection as "stressful to the brink of death."

The all-new Smash Bros. game launches in 2014 for Wii U and 3DS. Unlike its predecessor, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the new game will not feature a story mode or cutscenes.

This may be the only Smash bros without unlockable characters.

Sad in a way.

he should be the final boss instead of master hand

Just stick Rayman in the roster already...

I'd take him over the little shit from Animal Crossing.  What the hell ever made them even consider the nameless ugly headed muttonhead anyway...

I think it should be a unlockable character after you finish the game but not in the roster.

This reminds me of everyone asking for Harada of the Tekken series to be featured in a Tekken game or Ed Boon or Mortal Kombat to be featured in a Mortal Kombat game...

This reminds me of the original Marvel VS. Capcom that has a secret character from the real figure.

That's even stupider than putting the wii fit trainer in there.

It would make me want SSB less if he was in it.

I'd rather see a petition for the game to have a story mode.

What about Non-specific action figure?

I honestly can't believe this.  It seems to me a terrible idea to include a real-life businessman in a game which draws together much-loved characters from fictional universes.  It would be very out-of-character.  Moreover, there are many, many much more worthy characters, not all of which can possibly be included.

Well at least it would be a lot more amusing than having the Wii Fit girl in it (seriously, who decided that would be a good idea?).

Oh hell yes. Final Destination, no items, Regginator.

As hilarious as it would be, I would rather have pretty much any actual video game character. Like, I wouldn't want Reggie to "steal" a character spot in the game.

lol cool they should do it, or at least have a mii character which could be any mii u create or download to fight with as a playable character.

you can't just add Reggie to the game, I mean come on he's an executive. He gotta be paid DLC.

Is this so they can play as him or beat the shit out of him?

I would only play as Reggie if they put him in the game

If there is a create a fighter mode for this I'll go insane. I'll finally be able to have Toad in SSB. Then I'd use him to superplex Mario off of the Mushroom Castle.

@xeoneex66 animal crossing is one of nintendos best and most popular franchises. the animal crossing villager has been one of the most requested characters since melee. he is the best on the new roster. sooo much better than megaman

@Davimus518 Although Boon kind of made it into the game, or is at least referenced :D

@Gargus wiifit trainer is a great character. nintendo is going outside the box. thats a good thing.

I actually thought them adding wii fit trainer was funny. I think nintendo meant for it to be funny.

@Gargus i agree however since the wii-fit trainer is already in the game...

My thoughts exactly! Putting a real life person into an animated fighting game like Smash Bros is just freaking RIDICULOUS!!

@Plataea They could make him an assist trophy as a compromise.

@Daian I quite liked that idea. The whole point of super smash bros is that it's whacky! having the wii fit girl, and then a portly business gentleman will just add to it!

@jgfresh1997 @xeoneex66 Ya, see here is the thing.  I think the villager is the worst character, he's bland and boring.  He isn't even an attack oriented character.  To add attacks completely negates what he is about.  Mega man on the other hand is all about attacks.  He is ALOT more equiped for the task.  Not to mention Most gamers who know about mega man are gamers who grew up in that era.  I only played 1 animal crossing game he just doesn't fit to me.

jgfresh1997
jgfresh1997

@xeoneex66 @jgfresh1997 reguardless of weather they are combat oriented or not, all the characters in smash are amazing. i strongly disagree with adding more pokemon. i think they should remove them all but pokemon trainer and pikachu. i love jiggly puff but his prime is over. still, he was in the 12 so they cant really remove him. villager fights just because he can. same for the wii fit trainer. but i love to see these unique characters, and how they will play. thats why my favorite character at the moment is mr. game and watch.

xeoneex66
xeoneex66

@jgfresh1997 @xeoneex66 Granted some of the characters aren't entirely combat oriented, but at least peach as a reason to fight in certain situations.  As for The Villager?  He has none...  I just dont think he fits in at all.  Just my opinion take it with a grain of salt i guess.  I grew up with all those charactes minus a few, like marth.  I never really played Kirby but I definatly love him as a character.  Even Jigglypuff, as odd as that thing is...  I would rather have seen more pokemon added than anything.  But Megaman was sorely needed.  He was one of the original Macots of Nintendo till Crapcom shelved him permanently.  When I think nintendo, I think Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Link, Zelda, Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., Metroid, And Mega Man.  The villager doesn't come to mind when I think nintendo at all...

jgfresh1997
jgfresh1997

@xeoneex66 @jgfresh1997  why is that? alot of the characters in smash are not fighting oreinted. look at peach, mr. game and watch. ect. the best characters are the ones who you would never think would work, and they make them work. (mr game and watch is a good example of this) i grew up in the n64 era. ive played all the animal crossing games. i dont really care for mega man, but im sure they will make him a great character. i just love animal crossing. im sure the villager will be amazing just like the wiifit trainer.
