Skyrim 1.9 update live on Steam

Adds Legendary difficultly, the ability to reset skills, and over 70 bug fixes.

by

Bethesda has officially released The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's 1.9 update on Steam.

The patch, previously only available in beta, adds a Legendary difficulty setting and allows players to reset level 100 skills back to level 15, which effectively removes the level cap.

Over 70 bug fixes are also detailed, including memory and stability improvements, companions automatically equipping items, and a fixed "rare instance of couriers who would appear only dressed in a hat."

"For console players out there, we’re hoping to release 1.9 later this month," said Bethesda.

Skyrim's DLC content was finally released on PlayStation 3 last month, alongside the game's 1.8 patch.

Lol, I had read "... and adds over 70 new bugs". Ok, I'm a little tired...

I've tried the beta update and the number of fixes are actually rather impressive. It took them 3 games, but they've finally fixed the persistent ash piles (for those who don't know, persistent things are a big deal because they bloat save files and cause them to become unstable later on).

Resetting skills is also a welcome change, since I can now get to a high level and still remain loyal to my character's preferred skill set.

After a few weeks/months not playing, it's back the fun to play Skyrim on the PS3. I find the DLC's great. So i was patients and now waiting for this patch hah i do that now with my eyes closed (lol). Thanks to Bethesda my faith  is back in you.

The update was pretty small (15-25MB if I recall).  Not that I was expecting a huge update, but I am surprised that over 70 bugs are claimed to be fix with an update of that size.  Of note, I just played a few hours of 1.9 and I experienced something I have never seen before.  I was fighting 3 mammoths after killing the giant, and suddenly one of the mammoths began to slowly float away and upward.  I took out my bow because I could no longer hit it with a melee weapon, then suddenly it fell out of the sky and crashed to it's death when it hit the ground about 50 yards from me before I even had a chance to shoot it.

Can't help but wonder if there are now new bugs to replace the old ones.

My interests have suddenly piqued. Bring on those 'legendary' ragdoll dragons!

They still need to make some of the uniques improvable.  Some are, but it is annoying when you cannot.  The shield of Ysgamor for instance is pretty worthless other than the enchantments because even an Orcish large shield has better armor, especially when improved.  To me, that is more important than follower equipping something or not.

Glad bethesda supporting their game even after these many months. best company after CD project.

I still use Skyrim on PC (with modds and texture packs) to make console fanboys cry. Works every time.

So, does the skill reset just put the perk points spent on that skill back into the perk point pool?

"and allows players to reset level 100 skills back to level 15, which effectively removes the level cap."

Wait wait wait, so this isn't them adding more levels?  You just reset your progress back to 15 over and over again?  Yeah, no thanks.  Endless leveling by just removing your levels probably isn't what anyone had in mind.  Not me at least.

It will be nice to be able to use archery again to level, since its my class specific weapon, I got it to 100 about 25 levels ago. Cant wait for the ps3 patch.

They should have kept that one rare instance with the courier. The I only saw it once, and thought that he was so late he forgot to get dressed XD

First game I bought for my first PC build, but I've not played it since I logged 200 hours between launch and Feb 2012.  Maybe it is time to dive in to see what the DLC and mod community have done.

It made more problems aswell, I was playing it two nights ago on PC and I was near a Giant camp, I was thinking about how peaceful the mammoths and giants are together then I noticed a mammoth sliding up a hill very quickly.

@ApocaLeepse Do you or anyone else know when this update is likely to come to the 360?

I recently just bought the Dragonborn DLC and do not want to go into the game any farther, until this has been applied. I just can't level up any more without doing something completely different from my evolved character's skill set?

It really is a struggle and I am no fan of the magic, that is why I really wish for this update as soon as possible?

Any help is appreciated...?

@ZOD777 Code is just text.  If they aren't updating graphics patches are small.

ApocaLeepse

@ZOD777 I've actually seen that happen before. I'd say that's more of a physics problem and can't really be fixed without redoing the Mammoth model entirely. I wouldn't say it's that much of a big deal anyway, since I've only had it happen to me once and I've been playing Skyrim since the day it came out.

Also, the file size is small because Bethesda seem to be good at compressing their files. If you look at the DLC for example, they're not even a gigabyte, which is surprising considering how big they are in-game.

ZOD777
ZOD777

@Joutja Yes.  Once a skill reaches 100, you are then refunded that tree's points and the skill is reset to 15 (only numerically, but it is still considered a 100 point skill).  You can then either put the perks right back where they were, or spend them somewhere else, but the perks don't remain unless you reallocate them back. Sort of a strange way to allow that skill to still net you XP since once you get to 100 it no longer grants you progress toward the next level when using that skill.  It is very odd, and I might not be 100% correct on this, but from what I have read, that is my assumption.

@Senor_Kami Well at least you can play your class to level, and not have to level crap you dont use...

@sieg6529 Bethesda, allowing the community to keep a game prevalent. Modding communities are the true benefit of PC gaming! Someone should tell the other companies.

But no... where's the microtransactions and DLC fees from that?

@reincarnator07 @TheOnlyConan @naryanrobinson @juno21  To some extent you are right, but on the other hand, he isn't suggesting that modded Skyrim is the best game visually.  I have an OCed GTX 470 and it is able to run heavily modded Skyrim just fine, texture packs and all.

@reincarnator07 @TheOnlyConan @naryanrobinson @juno21 You sir have never seen my mods (apparently). And yes, it is perfect because you can show direct comparison with current gen.

And FYI: The police have come already, they started crying as well (when they saw it) and then made me an honorary police captain (the badge they gave me was solid gold).  They then went around town and "confiscated" every console they could find and are currently placing them on my door (very broken I am afraid). I asked them why? They stated (and I quote): "We could not allow anymore people to be hurt by those.......things!"

@TheOnlyConan @naryanrobinson @juno21  How about instead of being a "pc" fanboy or a "console" fanboy...be a video game fanboy and enjoy playing games regardless of what there on. Just a thought.

@TheOnlyConan Oh nobody can ever eat all *those* cookies.  I would have thought being the baker you would know that.

@naryanrobinson @TheOnlyConan @juno21 Nah, I have those cookies already, but the console fanboys already ate them all. But I could always use more to leave out for them. I am already out of cheese (that goes well with their whine).
