SingStore pricing revealed

SingStar's European online shop will open its virtual doors on December 7, initially offering 44 tunes.

At the end of last week, karaoke fans were popping the champagne and warbling into their hairbrushes to celebrate the official dating of the PlayStation 3 version of SingStar.

Now it has been revealed on Sony's "semi-official" European blog ThreeSpeech that the online SingStore will also launch on the same day--December 7. Of the 44 songs that will be available on launch day, some will be SingStar PlayStation 2 tracks and some will be brand new. Tracks will cost from 99p ($2) each, the same price as a single from iTunes.

New tunes are coming from artists including the Manic Street Preachers, Zutons, and Depeche Mode, and previously available songs include offerings from Gwen Stefani, OutKast, Coldplay, Pussycat Dolls, and Razorlight. Further songs will be added from December 17, with the goal being to have 350 songs in the store in the next few months.

The boxed copy of SingStar will be £24.99 ($51) or £49.99 ($102) bundled with two microphones. A North American release date or pricing information has not yet been revealed.

This kinda blows. If I want 50 songs, I'm going to need to shell out enough cash for two full, new games, and then I still won't get them either on discc or with cordless microphones? That's pathetic.

Shinedown220 "$2 a song, itunes songs are only 99 cents. How is that the same as itunes." QFT The only difference I see is that in SingStar, the video plays in the background. This seems more justified than the pricing for Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

Here in Europe it songs will cost about 2e, even though it should be around 1,19-1,40e 'cos euro is more than USdollar today. That's right that the songs at Blu-ray disc are not that great. And still there are only 30 songs. When I heard it will be released I thought it would include at least 40-60 on the disc. I really hope players can put their wishes of the songs somewhere (it could have been said before but I don't remember it now).. (forgot what I was thinking while writing this sentence). I'm really hoping eurodance hits from example DJ Bobo. On PS2 there is only one Bobo song "chihuahua" and it will be released soon in a german singstar version. 29 german songs, and I'm no German. (mm.. thats about that). A great Bobo song to sing in Singstar PS3 would be Amazing Life, it's not a rap song and that's why it's singable for everyone who understands english, and it's quite new song (2006). OK, I've said enough. Still looking forward to this. PS. a question. Are the PS3 bundlepacked mics the same as seen on PS2? (Sorry if I did't write correctly.) EDIT Europe price will be 1,5e. I don't know if it is from the older PS2 songs too but for new songs it's quite reasonable. After all you will get HD-musicvideo along with it, right(?). It's OK to me. (I was afraif of 2e pricetag.)

i think its should come with at least 100 songs for the price tag. most songs are crappy and dont deserve a dollar for it. all the song should be the top 100 on Billboard.

We can all agree SingStar is the best karaoke game out there. Can't wait. Will Green Day be on the game?

DonutTrooper Hah...the news report has been open for an hour now, only 3 have commented, and 2 have been complaints. Take note, Sony. See how psyched people are for the new SingStar? singstar's target audience is not the caucasian north american male that views this site

I always wanted to get singstar on PS2, and thought I might get some of those games for X-Mas. But if there are downloadable songs, I might as well get this one. Too bad I already know what I getting for X-Mas, prob get it out of cash I get.

Singstar isn't an Online type of game. What's the point of singing against someone if you can't see or hear them sing next to you? (and USB headsets aren't karaoke).

DonutTrooper: You see, the people that buy SingStar are not the people that hang out on sites such as GameSpot. I know, all of my female cousins have it. Its not a joke, 4 out of 4 has bought SingStar, and several add ons. And SingStar is selling like crazy in Europe. The only games left for PS2 on Scandinavian stores is SingStar and The Sims 2. Cause its the only thing still selling on the PS2. SingStar might not be big news on the GS community. But its a big player when it comes to casual gamers.

Great !!! just what you need a simple game that cost £400 !! I wonder how this will effect the number of tracks that is included with the retail version .. my guess is that it will be a very cut down list .. Way to make use of the BLu ray disk fellas !!
