Sims 4 Patch Fixes Hibernating Babies, Grim Reaper Dating

EA deploys launch-day patch for just-released PC simulation game; full patch notes here.

Electronic Arts has released a patch for The Sims 4, released today on PC, that promises to fix a range of bugs and other various--and strange--issues.

One issue cleared up through the patch is a bug that makes the game hang up after you've gone on a date with the Grim Reaper. "The Reaper still loves ya baby, he is just too busy to go on a date with every lovelorn Sim that vies for his attention," EA writes.

Another Sims 4 bug that the patch aims to fix is for an issue where "babies were incorrectly hibernating within household inventories."

You can see the full day-one patch notes for The Sims 4 below. The game launched today, and you can expect our review later this week.

Severe Issues / Crashes:

    • Babies no longer multiply if left in the Household Inventory while editing the lot via Manage Worlds.

I laugh at people who pre ordered this game after seeing what EA did with Sim City.

How do we download patches for sims 4?

I watched streamers play this game for a few hours yesterday and I still don't know what it has that Sims3 doesn't have.   Is this like Madden?   Is there actually any new content here or is it the exact same game repackaged with a new sticker?

Just played it for an hour or so. I'm very disappointed and missing TS3.

One site worded the title as "Sims 4 day one patch fixes dating of grim reaper, babies, more" and I bust out laughing as it sounded SO WRONG!

For anyone that has been playing The Sims 4 so far, I have a legitimate question. Why would you want to play this instead of The Sims 3 right now? With so much more content in its predecessor, is Sims 4 worth going back to the basics? What does it have that Sims 3 doesn't?

I am not buying this but sometimes i hate the internet with these day 1 patches.  Bring back the time when games had to be finished or at least demo Cd and patched like that.

I had two major issues with the Sims.  1)  There were never any weekends.  If you wanted to take a day off, you got a threatening message from work about it.  2)  Some of the time elements were imbalanced.  I remember watching the clock to see how long it took my healthy Sim to climb a flight of stairs.  It took 4 sim-minutes!

I dont see how anyone can be mad about bugs when you buy the game day one. So many games and game consoles have bugs. thats why people say never get it day one. And instead of taking weeks to fix it they took one day!!! And besides using a pool for looks who really used them? sim go swim while i sit here and watch u go in a circle.. And toddler was only fun so i could do there bedrooms. i hated teaching them to potty or walk because they didnt need to learn this to grown up an do it. I felt like toddlers and pools were a waste and used very lil anyways. The bug issue is not a big deal.. why not??? because they fixed it within 24hours. unlike other games which takes weeks or consoles which take weeks-years. If you dont like ea stop buying ea game is that simple. If you dont like the game return it. its that simple. And EA is human making a game. That means there will be mistakes because they are only human. you hate what they did lets see your game you created bug free please! Great job. getting my disk in a lil and i cant wait because even if your not perfect your still the sims. plus i remember how bad TS3 was at first so you most only have more to impress me with. please bring back mermaids and scuba diving!!

If you download the digital copy, can you put in on more than one computer? Ex: a laptop and a desktop?

I grew up on old school Maxis sim titles - Sim Ant, Sim Life, Sim City etc... it's sad to see how much how the Sims games have had their content parcelled out into expansion-pack central (to say nothing of the whacky latest Sim City). The expansion packs for the original Sims were fine because they were taking an original, complete game to new levels as they came up with ideas for new things the game could include.

Isn't there a law against leaving your baby in the household inventory?

stoposto

@ripperoni There is even less than Sims 3. They have not included all the expansions The Sims 3 have.

EA will just spend a few hours "updating" the DLCs and then sell them for the usual 20+ dollars as The Sims 4 DLCs...

@tsunami2311 There have actually been a few devs going on record in saying it's not worth the extra money.

@spikepigeo yes I want to play this instead of Sims 3 right now! Right now interface/movement takes a little time to get used to. Play is a little more intensely focused on the current sims. There are some great new things. We have a playable neighborhood, meaning we can move around the neighborhood with out having to hit the load screen. We can already travel between worlds. Babies are not so bad in the bassinet and you can age them when you want appose to using a cheat to grow them up or waiting forever for them to age on their own. Skilling is fun, I have a secret agent and a computer tech skilling up rather quickly. I like that the jobs/school actually have a way to level up in a fun way. Time actually means something, you can get more done in the day, sims can socialize while doing activities like working on the computer or making dinner, ect. For me it has loaded quicker than the Sims 3 ever did with no cc. I like not having to wait for ever for the game to load.

@skipper847 So you would rather they release a game that may or may not be broken, then wait 2 weeks after release, if at all, to release a patch? Day 1 patches let developers continue working on the game even after it goes to get pressed to discs so that they can get the game out to you faster.

@93ChevyNut I agree time was stupid I like that sims 4 it takes reasonable time now and you can multitask and chat while doing things! And there are weekends!

jinzo9988
jinzo9988

@93ChevyNut Yeah, time has always been an issue for me when it comes to these games.  It never seems like you have enough time to do anything substantial unless you reserve enormous blocks of time to get it done.  For example, it never feels like you have enough time to go on a date after work even though in real life that's pretty reasonable.  It never feels like you have enough time to squeeze a 30 minute workout because a good chunk of those 30 minutes are spent changing clothes and getting to an area to actually do it, even though in real life that's completely reasonable.  I don't know why they don't put some sort of time scaling function where you can adjust how long one minute is in-game.

@xantufrog I agree, the Sim titles really abuse the expansion pack model nowadays. Its all about the money, though.

@Relvar I think leaving your baby inside the cardboard box alongside with books and stuffs is fine here

@nothingformoney "how was work honey?" "oh took about 220-230 lifes today, *sigh* sure wish things would speed up a work."

xantufrog

@lunchbox2042 @skipper847 did you play games back in the day? It was rare that a game needed a patch for anything other than minor bugs. Usually they really were released "done and working" for all intents and purposes.

Mind you, as games become more and more complex it is harder for devs to live up to that standard, but it's pretty hard to defend a world where products are released a buggy mess and/or incomplete because "it gets to you faster that way"

solidsnake7882
solidsnake7882

@jinzo9988 @93ChevyNut  I could ask you the same question. If you're going back as far as Atari, nes, sega MS etc.. I recall a few games that were a bloody mess. And I don't mean gore. Now there were plenty that worked right but I can even remember a couple that had to be shelved and rereleased due to bugs. You want to go back to that? Games now are 1000x more complicated and it is impossible to know of every bug pre release. I'll take a day one patch anyday to make the game the way it was intended.
