Sid Meier's SimGolf, Electronic Arts' golf resort management game, debuted in sixth place in NPD Techworld's latest weekly list of best-selling games in its first full week of release. The game is a result of a collaboration between Sid Meier, the creator of the Civilization series, and Will Wright, the creator of The Sims and SimCity series. The rest of the list looked basically the same as last week's list, with the notable exception that Activision's first-person shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein dropped off the list from fifth place the week before.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, EA's World War II shooter, retained the lead. The Sims: Hot Date, EA's virtual-life game expansion, came in second place, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, EA's adventure game, finished third. Fourth place went to The Sims, EA's virtual-life game, followed by RollerCoaster Tycoon, Infogrames' theme-park management game, which came in fifth.
