Sierra Reorgs

Company juggles divisions as Babylon 5 and Orcs get cancelled.

Sierra On-line announced that its would be reorganizing itself into three business units for a better focus "on developing and publishing leading products for these three distinct marketplaces." The reorganizaton is effective Immediately.

Sierra has also announced the cancellation of four titles that the company felt did not meet its "success criteria." Those titles are Dynamix's Desert Fighters and Pro Pilot Paradise, Sierra Studio's Babylon 5, and Berkeley Systems' Orcs: Revenge of the Ancient. The cancellation of the titles will end the jobs of 105 workers.

Senior VP business unit manager Mark Hood and VP of marketing Jim Veevaert will head the Core Games division. This division covers Sierra Studios, Papyrus, Impressions Games, Sierra's Northwest studio, and the Tribes team, along with third-party relations with Relic, Troika Games, and Massive Entertainment.

The other two divisions, Casual Entertainment and Home/Productivity, haven't cancelled any titles and will continue to refocus on their markets.

Casual Entertainment will be headed by senior VP business unit manager Steve Van Horn and VP of marketing Barbara Schwabe. It will cover the Hoyle line, Trophy Bass Fishing series, Professional Bull Rider, the Field and Stream Hunting series, the 3D Ultra series, and You Don't Know Jack.

Home/Productivity will be led by senior VP business unit manager, Dianna Amorde and VP of marketing Anne Boswell. It will cover cooking, gardening, home design, home publishing, family heritage, digital imaging, and web-page design.
