Shippin' Out Oct. 31-Nov. 6: Kinect, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, GoldenEye, James Bond: Blood Stone

Plentiful new release slate sees Microsoft's full-body motion control tech and launch titles hit shelves; portable Kratos adventure, pair of 007 titles round out the week.

Last week's new release roster included heavyweights Rock Band 3, Fable III, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. This week the ante is upped even further.

Leading the pack this week is Microsoft's full-body motion control technology, Kinect, and a smattering of launch titles for it. The camera controller goes on sale Thursday, November 4, for $150 by itself (Kinect Adventures included) and in Xbox 360 bundles starting at $299. According to a recent poll, Kinect is pegged to be a "big winner" this holiday, with Microsoft expecting to sell more than 3 million units by year's end.

Kinect is finally ready for its close-up.

The list of launch titles for Kinect runs 17 deep and includes titles like Harmonix's Dance Central (see video at bottom), Microsoft's Kinectimals, as well as games like Konami's MotionSports and Sega's Sonic Free Riders.

Also being released this week is God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The latest PSP-exclusive installment in the multimillion-selling PlayStation-exclusive franchise will also be available as part of a hardware bundle. The God of War: Ghost of Sparta Entertainment Pack contains the game, a two-tone red and black PSP-3000, a download voucher for God of War: Chains of Olympus, a copy of the recent comic-book action movie Kick-Ass on UMD, and a 2GB Memory Stick Duo.

Ghost of Sparta is the second God of War game to be released on Sony's portable. The title was developed at Irvine, California-based Ready at Dawn, which also handled development duties for Chains of Olympus.

The ghost of Sparta comes to life on Tuesday.

While the fate of the James Bond film franchise remains uncertain, there are two video games attached to the series due out this week. GoldenEye 007 hits the Wii exclusively on Tuesday, and James Bond 007: Blood Stone comes to the PC, DS, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on the same day.

Although GoldenEye 007 bears the same title as the Nintendo 64 title it's based on, the new Wii title is not a simple remake of the intensely popular original. On top of a new single-player campaign starring Daniel Craig, GoldenEye 007 will include online multiplayer, a functionality its N64 cousin could not offer. In addition, players will be able to take part in 16 game modes, including GoldenEye 007 N64 favorites Paintball, Melee Only, and You Only Live Twice. On top of that, players can square off against each other in the game's adversarial modes, with the roster including eight characters from the revered Bond classic, as well as 40 other unnamed virtual soldiers.

The other Bond game due out on Tuesday is James Bond 007: Blood Stone. Developed by Bizarre Creations (Blur, Project Gotham Racing series), the title stars Daniel Craig as the international superspy and features hand-to-hand combat, cover-based shooting, and driving sequences.

The single-player game will feature a brand-new story spanning Athens, Istanbul, Monaco, and Bangkok, with both land- and sea-based action. Blood Stone also sports 16-player multiplayer modes based around spies-versus-mercenaries team play.

Joss Stone has a license to thrill.

Blood Stone will also feature the voices and likenesses of Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, and Joss Stone. As well as appearing in the game, Stone will be providing an original musical track, titled "I'll Take It All," written and performed by her and Dave Stewart. Development of the DS version is being handled by n-Space.

@Gelugon_baat NIce comment, I don't know about that whole make it for playstation move/ kinect idea. although it would help sell both of those items, it seem like a stretch. I really hope they would just give it the "perfect dark" xbl treatment, so many copies would be downloaded. i do have to say that i think the kinect/ move items are kind of lame, but this would really get the attention of hardcore gamers if goldeneye went that route.
You really think the kinect is giving the wii a run for its money? Its always nice to believe in fairy tales.
Ooh sarcasm! What's so unbelievable about Kinect giving the Wii competition? Graphics? Buzzt! Wrong! Sound? Buzzt! Price? Buzzt! Wrong again. The only difference is that tards wont be throwing their controllers into their tv's.

An impressive selection of games to get stuck into. I'm torn with Goldeneye though. On one hand I want it, for nostaligia's sake, on the other I hate Kotick and don't want to pop any moneez in his pockets. My principles usually win out though so I guess I'll pass. Maybe I'll just buy an N64 again and play Goldeneye as it should be.

yay! fist of the north star! who is taking bets about goldeneye being ported to other consoles and when?

monson21502
monson21502

@eal-zubieri, not just mine... i seen alot of people say move was a waste of their money. and even more will be saying once they switch back to normal controls in the future game options on games like kz3, res3, uc3, ect ect. it will be fun for a game or to then it will get boring. you will never get classics as good as the wii has with mg2 and others with move. because sony cant afford to make a a big costly game for move only from the ground up. it has 40 million others to target first... maybe in a few years if more users buy move they might get a good move only game. but right now it seems like its only gonna get wii ports and tacked on motion controls to the core games. but i think move is in real trouble because kinect will be the one who gets all the new crowd to gaming just like the wii did... their is already big core games for kinect only in the works.. move has nothing...

Can't wait to play Goldeneye for the first time without the need for makeshift screen-dividing hardware attached to the TV.

@monson21502 thats just your opinion, not all people thinks the same way.

GamerYnoX

Kinect is something new but without buttons and controls like the wii or the move I doubt one could play as many types of games the others can. Kinect doesn't strike me much atention as the wii or the move.

monson21502
monson21502

@eal-zubieri, reason i dont count ps3 exclusives with tacked on motion controls is because if you want classics with motion controls you are much better off to buy a wii over a move bundle and the other 2 controllers you need for single player games. brand new red wii bundle is only 200 the move set is 190 bucks... so for me it was a much better to buy a wii since i only owned a ps3 and 360 and since move is like the wii so much. kinect offers alot more then what move can do. and a few more days it will proved to all the haters. move has already been proven to be a waste of money:P

eal-zubieri

@monson21502 "a bunch of wii copy cat games, and no core games built just for move" you are always negative aren't you? oh please be realistic because this applies also on kinect too but its just worse and since socom4,killzone3 and a lot of other games are coming next year on move, i don't see anything that interesting on kinect to make me pay the 150$ price tag.

PixelAddict

@IceJester45 Yeah, I am getting the feeling the sky is falling. Kinect was listed as one of the signs of the gaming apocalypse, wasn't it?

There is absolutely nothing I want to play on either Kinect or Move maybe they'll come up with something innovative in the future, but for right now it looks like HD Wii games and my Wii does nothing but collect dust.

Still more innovative than the MOVE imo. I might sell my Wii to get the Kinect if it gets decent reviews.

The only way I feel kinect will work well, is if it was integrated into my laptop/monitors in some way in which it can replace my mouse or track pad. Totally dreaming about minority report, minus the gloves, and everywhere in my house. *I don't like touching my screen. Fingerprints exists no matter how indestructible the screen itself is.

Lay5354
Lay5354

Not going to lie, I have a table in front of my TV, and its already giving me problems with the Playstation move because the Camera doesn't work well in well lit rooms and when you stand at a certain distance away. Kinect would mean that I'd have to actually move that table. Before anyone begins thinking about the games, i think its best to consider whether it can even work in your house. The move is pushing it, but i can manage. Kinect on the other hand, I don't think can make it to my living room. *I guess I could move the table every time i play, but its granite.

I admit I'm curious to try Kinect, I thin Move looks sorta silly reminds me of that funny thing I found in my mom's underwear drawer years ago. I'm not a fanboy and own every system save PSP. I've been waiting for PSP2 but that G.O.W. pack has me weakening. Red and Black, I never tire of Kick-Ass and kratos to boot.

@PixelAddict, I don't know about changing everything. Frankly, I don't care. I just like how a simple statement of one's intent to buy Kinect can send certain GameSpot users into a fit of rage. It's terrific. But, yeah, holodecks are cool.
