Shippin' Out July 3-9: EDF: Insect Armageddon

Light week at retail highlighted by Vicious Cycle's sci-fi shooter and Resistance Dual Pack for the PlayStation 3.

by

It's a very light week at retail this week, as just a few new games make their way to store shelves over the span of the next seven days.

Leading the pack this week is the $40 Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Developed by Vicious Cycle Games (Dead Head Fred, Matt Hazard), Insect Armageddon will once again cast players as a member of the Earth Defense Force. When the planet is attacked by alien invasion forces of gigantic genetically altered terrestrial bugs like ants and spiders, the vastly outnumbered EDF makes up for a lack of manpower with an abundance of firepower.

EDF: Armageddon is one game designed to be "buggy."

To help stave off the invasion, Insect Armageddon will give players access to more than 300 weapons and helpful tools like jetpacks and movable turrets. It will also let up to three players go through the campaign mode together online or allow offline multiplayer with two players in split-screen cooperative mode. The game also features a separate six-player mode where players battle wave after wave of the alien menace together.

Resistance 3 isn't due out until this September, but gamers can relive some of the sci-fi shooter series action this week with a new combo pack for the PlayStation 3. The Resistance Dual Pack bundles the original Resistance and its sequel, Resistance 2, for $40.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and subject to change.

Loving EDF so far. Strongly recommend it to anyone who liked 2017 but was put off by some of its technical issues. The game IS DIFFERENT, don't get me wrong. But I'm loving it. It accomplishes the same frenetic, overwhelming rush in different ways.

Loved the Earth Defense force 2017 game. So Earth Defense force insect Armageddon. Is a must buy for me. Blow everything up and save the Earth. I even played the coin-op arcade version before these 7th generation EDF games. Hard as hell at times but fun.

If only Resistance 1 had received the trophy patch...

It's actually good that this time of the year is very slow release-wise .. gives me time to finish the ton of awesome games in my backlog that I couldn't play during my exams before the craziness starts all over again in the 4th quarter of this year with a bajillion must-have titles coming out ..

Nothing for me this week. I'm still too busy with Ocarina of Time 3D and the new Steam sales.

I hope the local cheapskate stores pick this one up so I can rent it. Buying without trying doesn't work well for me.
