Shippin' Out Jan. 24-30: Mass Effect 2, MAG, No More Heroes 2
Console exclusives rule the week, as Xbox 360, PS3, Wii headliners join Capcom's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.
Between Bayonetta, Army of Two, and Darksiders, January hasn't been wanting for big-name releases. Keeping that streak running through the end of the month, January's final week has on tap high-profile console exclusives for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
With BioWare's fantasy epic Dragon Age: Origins still on the mind of many role-playing game fans, the Canadian studio is already returning with the sci-fi offering Mass Effect 2. Available for the Xbox 360 and PC, it picks up where the acclaimed original Mass Effect left off, taking back up with Commander Shepard as he recruits a new crew in his ongoing quest to halt the Reapers' threat to the galaxy. The Mass Effect 2 Collectors' Edition will be available for $69.99 on the Xbox 360 and $59.99 on the PC--$10 more than the standard edition price.
SOCOM veterans Zipper Interactive will deploy its new military action game MAG exclusively on the PS3 this week. The multiplayer-only online shooter features up to 256 players in a single game. Each player will assume a different rank on each side, viewing the battlefield according to his or her station. Commanders will see the action from a top-down view from which they can direct lower-level soldiers, who will see from a first-person point of view on the front lines.
The Wii actually has a pair of high-profile titles hitting this week: Grasshoper Manufacture's No More Heroes 2: Desperate struggle and Capcom's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. The former sees players again assuming the role of the spastic Travis Touchdown three years after he ascended the ranks of the United Assassin's Association. Meanwhile, Capcom's cross-brand fighter draws from more than 20 characters that populate the game publisher's and Japanese anime production house's respective character stables.
