Shippin' Out Jan. 16-22: Little Big Planet 2, Mass Effect 2 PS3

New release slate championed by Media Molecule's platformer sequel, Sony debut of Commander Shepard's latest adventure; Mindjack also out.

by

Last week, massively multiplayer superhero fans received the long-awaited DC Universe Online, but the hero of this week is more Lilliputian.

Spearheading the week is Media Molecule's Little Big Planet 2. First expected to debut during the holiday season, its developer pushed it back in favor of additional polish in September. Little Big Planet 2 expands upon the triple-platinum first game's creative options. Instead of just being able to create levels in a game, players will now be able to craft entire genres of games, such as top-down racing games, multiplayer shooters, and role-playing games.

Sackboy returns for another adventure this week.

Also out this week is BioWare's Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3. Running on the Mass Effect 3 game engine, the title will debut both at brick-and-mortar retail and via Sony's PlayStation Network as a 12GB digital download on Tuesday. The game casts players once again as Commander Shepard, a former Alliance Marine who finds himself in the employ of the shadowy pro-human group known as Cerberus. For more information, check out GameSpot's full review of the Xbox 360 edition of the game.

Gamers with a thirst for shooting can pick up Mindjack this week for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. The title places players in the turbulent world of 2031, when the planet is beset with political unrest. They will assume the role of Jim Corbijn, a federal agent equipped with high-tech devices that allow him to "hack" the minds of enemies or civilians and control vehicles to control their respective abilities. His skills will come in handy once he is sucked into a netherworld of intrigue where corporations battle countries for supremacy.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Truly sad after reading the review of the PS3 Port of ME2. Yet another example of a game that was near flawless on the 360 not living quite up to its full potential on the PS3. But as you all keep preaching too me, this is the year of the PS3 right?

Congrats to all the PS3 players out there. You finally get ME2 and you will love it. One of the best games of all time in my opinion and I'm very glad that it is getting to the PS3 owners. As much as I dont like Sony or the PS3, you gamers deserve to experiance this amazing world/game. Its just awsome! Have fun!

@COPMAN221, i own all systems. the problem with that is. i get alot of your new ps3 games on 360 alot sooner... and the rest were promised for last year or even longer:P ms has a ton of games coming in 2011. and when they say 2011 they are released in 2011 not like sony games. gears 3 alone will be better then any ps3 game in 2011. you can book it:)

My post erased. Mass Effect 1 Paragon/Renegade Choices are addressed in Mass Effect 2 when you port the save file from the previous game. Unless you play the first you do not fully experience the second.

LBP:2 FTW! ME:2 is whatever to me though. Been out for almost a year. I did notice that it runs smoother though. Visuals were exactly the same, and the extra gameplay will be DLC on the 360 and PC before the summer.

@ JMONEYHALOWWE Mass Effect 2 for ps3 comes with 6+ hours of extra game play which are no where found on the 360.. Not to mention that it looks better as well. The only thing wack is your comment.. @monson21502 nothing worth buying on the 360.. Where are all the games? Eveyone here knows what you are my friend so go play all your last year exclusives along with your "awesome kinect" because there isn't much coming out this year for the 360.

Would be nice of Bioware would release a GOTY edition with most of the DLC for the Xbox. Not sure why they couldn't do that at the same time they launched the PS3 edition. I'd be happy to pick up the PS3 version but Shepard's decisions are all on my Xbox harddrive!

Going to wait till the summer sales to buy some of the new releases coming out early this year. Only if Sequels were $30-40 instead of $60-80. Then I would probably buy more new games right at release. Alas I am not made of money and got to pick and choose :c But at least I am still happy with Vanquish for this months new game purchase : D

Hmm...my year doesn't really kick off until next month. NISA is bringing us a lot of titles I'm interested in this year, and it all starts with Neptunia in February.

@CloudX98: I'd get LBP2. The first was great with tons of replay value and according to reviews, the sequel offers even more than the first.

I have got to lay off buying new games until I've finished the ones I have, but I can tell it's going to be difficult this year...

@ CloudX98 : "Im getting a PS3 this friday what should be the first game I should get?" If you have not played Mass Effect 2, then there is your answer. As for me, nothing this week, Dead Space 2 for PS3 next week is another matter.

Can't wait to jump into LBP2 with some friends. As for Mass Effect 2, I don't have the cash to get it along with LBP so I'll wait a few weeks.

Great So Mass Effect 2 Plays on the new Engine but does not have the Mass Effect 1 tie in. BioWare or who ever did this has me ticked. I want to try the new engine but on a game I already own that does not have the connection of the past game that is integral part of Mass Effect 2 sounds like a waste.

Megavideogamer

Mass Effect 2 is a year late. At least on PS3. Little Big Planet 2 will sell lots. Many people liked the first and this game will continue to deliver what the fans of sackboy want more creation. Slow start of 2011

Finally, I can play ME2! I've been waiting since I beat the first one on my friend's 360. And I've already got my CE of LBP2 preordered. It's a great start to a great year.

Jon_Sly

All I can say is weak! ME2 beat it on 360 100% achievements and all downloadable content done... so a little late sony. LBP2 zzzzzz waste of time. I will give my ps3 another go when Uncharted 3 comes out, or crossing fingers a Demon Souls 2?

LBP2 sounds fun but lately, i don't know.
