Shippin' Out February 6-12: Mario Sports Mix, Test Drive Unlimited 2

New release slate led by portly plumber's athletic outing, open-world racer; You Don't Know Jack also out.

Last week Activision's First Strike map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops led all-new releases. This week's focus, however, is on a mustached plumber playing sports and open-world racing.

The Mario Bros. return this week.

First out of the gate this week is Nintendo's Mario Sports Mix for the Wii. The title is a four-sport Wii compilation including arcade-style takes on hockey, basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball, complete with power-ups and special moves. Gamers will be able to play each of the sports with Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom costars or with their own Mii characters.

Also out this week is Atari's Test Drive Unlimited 2 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The title will see players racing in locations that include the Spanish party hotspot Ibiza and the paradise island of Oahu from the original title. In addition to new vehicles, race types, and a revamped single-player mode that can be played online or off, the game will give players the chance to build and grow in-game clubs composed of friend networks.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 revs up this week.

Gamers with a tilt for virtual game shows can pick up THQ's You Don't Know Jack this week for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS. The trivia game will feature wisecracks about Tiger Woods' extramarital affairs, as well as drug references and figurative buckets of blood. It also features a fictitious television show centered on flatulence.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

Stronger than last week (but that's only relatively considering the poor to mixed reviews Mario Sports Mix is having). 1st quarter of 2011 has been much weaker than 2010 so far. Remember guys, we got about 6 major games in January 2010 alone, while only two (LittleBigPlanet 2 and Dead Space 2). It seems that its going to start to pick up for the second half of February with Marvel vs Capcom 3, BulletStorm and Killzone 3, and Pokemon Black/White, 3DS launch and I'm sure others I'm forgetting in March.

Mario games sell.... because..... .they are fun? That might be a hard concept for some people to understand, but its true. Honestly, would it really matter if they changed the characters? No. So why not put Mario and co. in there. Its not a smart business decision to make random characters when you can have the mario characters in them.

i hate winter...there is always some slow weeks with no releases. Mario Sports will be someday. But im waiting for Killzone 3!

@All the people asking: MvC3 isn't included because it releases on the 15th (in US). This is for Feb 6-12.

Wow another sports title for the Wii, proving that motion controls are truly for a wide variety of titles, including Sports, Party Games and umm.... uhhh....

@ BAD-COMPANY Nintendo's characters are very famous and a big reason why they get sales. Obviously a first party sports game will have Mr. Mario :) other companies do it too

While I'm more excited for MvC3, I must say I can't wait to throw dodge balls at Waluigi as a Moogle. ^__^

It Mario Sports MIx is as fun as Mario Strikers was... its definately worth a purchase, but if its not to those standards, it will be too lame to spend money on.

*yawn* Another Mario game straight out of the cow. I know we all realize Mario is the mascot of Nintendo but Nintendo can at least try something new.

All games for Wii with online multi-player = must buy for EVERYONE because it's 100% free on-line multi-player + perfect motion control. For example for X360 you need to pay(Gol) for online pleasure

@slickvic1990 People hate on Mario games because they're overused and for me... overrated. A Mario game doesn't have to be any good at all. But, because it has Mario in it it sells well.

Woah, did not expect online multiplayer for Mario Sports Mix. I might have to pick this up now.

The only game I care about coming out in February is Dragon Quest 6 on the DS...I can't say I'm at all interested in another lackluster Mario based sports game.

Mario Sports Mix sounds fun. I just with that they would add in an American Football version..

slickvic1990

Mario Sports Mix actually looks like a solid, fun game. I don't get the hate the mario sports games get. I've never played a bad one, and while they're nowhere near the quality of true Mario games, they're still quality games that are fun to play, and i'm sure Mario Sports mix will follow that trend.

Hate me but does anybody else see Nintendo as just another Activision trying to cash in every dollar they can on awful Mario games? At least Activision only releases one CoD game each year where as Mario has like 10 to 20.

hmm... I wonder if TDU2 will have gamepad support for PC. Dungeons looks unique.

TDU 2 looks quite promising. It's a shame I only have the money to cover MvsC 3 and Killzone 3 this month. Either way, if it turns out good I'll get it sometime later.
