Shippin' Out April 8-14: Fez, Pinball Arcade

Sparse new release slate led by Polytron's long-awaited downloadable game on Xbox Live and FarSight's pinball game for Sony systems; World Gone Sour also out.

Brick-and-mortar retailers won't be stocking their shelves with many new high-profile games this week, as the biggest of the bunch arrive on downloadable fronts. Polytron's much-anticipated platformer Fez and FarSight's Pinball Arcade for the PlayStation Network round out the week's biggest titles.

Fez is finally out this week.
Fez is finally out this week.

Out in front this week is Fez. Releasing on Friday, April 13, the Xbox Live downloadable game is a 2D platformer built entirely using Microsoft's XNA tools in an 8-bit pixel art style. The game also adds a third dimension and lets players rotate the gameworld around the protagonist, Gomez.

Also out on a downloadable front this week is The Pinball Arcade for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. The game features digital re-creations of real-life pinball tables from manufacturers like Williams, Bally, and Gottlieb. Additionally, tables purchased on the PS3 can be played on the PS Vita, and vice versa.

Gamers looking for a sour--at least in name--downloadable experience this week can pick up Capcom's World Gone Sour on Xbox Live and PSN. The $5 action adventure game has players jumping into the gummy shoes of a piece of candy seeking to enter the human stomach. On the player's quest to be digested, gamers will need to overcome obstacles like a movie theater concession stand and rival candies (like gum.)

A pair of 2D fighting games round out the week, with Phantom Breaker for the Xbox 360 and Skullgirls for Xbox Live arriving on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
