Shippin' Out Apr. 4-10: Borderlands Add-On Pack

Retail combo of Gearbox shooter's Dr. Ned and Underdome Riot DLC leads an anemic week of new releases.

With many publishers' fiscal years ending on March 31, it's not entirely surprising to see a bit of a release schedule letdown to start April. That said, the letdown is more like a meltdown this year, as the week of April 4 is one of the lightest in recent memory, in terms of new retail releases.

Sorry, PS3 Borderlands players. There's no retail add-on pack coming for Sony's system.

Even the biggest retail release of the week, the Borderlands: Double Game Add-On Pack, is just a sampling of already available downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and PC. Take-Two's brick-and-mortar Borderlands expansion will sell for $20 and includes all the content from The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, the first two DLC packs. The package will not include February's Secret Armory of General Knoxx.

The only other high-profile debut for the week will be downloadable only, as Electronic Arts is set to launch the Kasumi - Stolen Memory add-on for the Xbox 360 and PC editions of Mass Effect 2. As detailed in GameSpot's first look at the add-on pack from this year's Game Developers Conference, the pack's primary draw is the addition of the titular new character, Kasumi Goto.

Described as a master thief, Kasumi comes with her own loyalty mission in which players aid her in stealthily retrieving information from the criminal mastermind Donovan Hock. The Kasumi - Stolen Memory pack also includes a new research upgrade and introduces the flashbang grenade, which temporarily blinds enemies.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later in the week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

@dante200x LOL Are you still hung up on this? Don't you have something better to do than harrass me? lol. You say you're 25 but you're acting like one of those obnoxious teens everyone hears about. (No offense to teens who aren't obnoxious ;) ). Besides, what's it to you what I do with my money? Quit trolling and go find a game to play or something. By the way, I'm in my 30's in my own home, and my hi end PC and I can afford to get what I want for the reasons I want, again, what is it to you? Stop being a troll. More on topic: I think they should've released to the PS3 also.

Why is DLC only released, if ever, for retail way after most people would already have it? Whats so hard about releasing simultaneously?

I hate this 360 exclusive crap, even though I own all systems. It wouldn't make me want to buy a 360 any more, but actually piss me off and makes me not want ti buy a 360 with all the crap Microsoft pulls.

@dante200x lol, I'm not wasting my time on a board to clarify what "I" mean when it's going over your head based on your response. Enjoy your day.

Good for people who haven't got XBL or haven't bought the game yet, I think they are really missing out. Amazing game if you ask me.

@ Rottenwood - Well said, i couldn't agree with you more. Companies can put out anything they want, it could be quality or crap, expensive or cheap. But in the end it's the customer that buys it or not. So it's nearly useless to complain when somethings sells, apparently somebody bought it.

I need a break from new releases! My pockets have bled dry! Either way lots of catching up to do as well! A week of no releases isn't a very bad thing.

@Rottenwood, while I did not agree with your statements on the God of War 3 article, I will say you are a spot on this one. The DLC is Evil is quite silly. Like I have said there is good DLC and bad DLC. Simple as that. And yes I wait out games for them to price drop, most games price drop in a matter of months and thats fine and dandy.

You always know it's a slow week when another 'DLC is eeeeevil!' discussion pops up. Let's face it; actions have reactions. A lot of gamers have spent the last 10 years (or more) using every trick in the book to enjoy state-of-the-art software without paying their share of the bill. Piracy, rentals, used games, borrowing, etc., etc. - none of which does much of anything to properly compensate the people who made the games to begin with. And hey, guess what? People don't like freeloaders eating away at their paychecks. "But games are so expensive blah blah blah." First of all, not really. Their value per dollar is comparative, if not far superior, to other major forms of amusement. And today's $60 game is a $20 Greatest Hit if you just wait it out. But of course, not only do the sponges demand to play top games for pocket change, but they need them the day they come out. This is not a fun business model for a publisher. Hence, DLC. You can complain about the DLC business model, but it's a direct result of OUR behavior at the marketplace. Time to man up and accept it.

Okay, just to play devil's advocate, let's say you worked for a corporation. Corporations are formed to make money. If you work for them, they expect you to milk your "fans." Or you work somewhere else and make less money for your life and family. What do you worry about? considering we (consumers) complain a little and then ultimately buy the content.
