Sega announced a Sonic the Hedgehog movie in February, and now the video game publisher is working with its production company, Stories International, and producer Marc Platt to adapt ninja franchise Shinobi into a film.

Platt will be joined by his production partner, Adam Siegel, and work in cooperation with Stories president and CEO Tomoya Suzuki. Platt said in a press release that he believes ninjas haven't been properly explored onscreen and Shinobi gives them the opportunity to bring that world to film.

"With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games and brings this fascinating world to life for moviegoing audiences," Platt added.

Platt has produced films such as Drive, Wanted, and the Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies, as well as Legally Blonde, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Into the Woods. He is also producing upcoming movies The Girl on the Train, Wanted 2, and a film version of the Broadway musical Wicked.

Shinobi debuted in 1987 as an arcade game, which was followed by games in both arcades and home platforms such as The Revenge of Shinobi on Genesis and Shinobi on PlayStation 2. The most recent Shinobi game appeared as a launch title on the 3DS in 2011.
