Respected game designer and creator of the Shenmue series, Yu Suzuki, is set to host a live event to mark the ending of the Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3.

At the time of writing, the Shenmue 3 crowd-funding campaign has just 16 hours left, and Suzuki has released a video encouraging people to back the project.

"Since Shenmue 3 was announced a month has already gone by," he says. "In a matter of eight hours, we reached our goal of $2 million and rewrote the Guiness World Record for fastest game to reach $1 million.

"I believe we can make another miracle happen with Shenmue in these next 24 hours," he continued. "You and I have had a shared dream for the past 15 years. Now it's time to make our dream of Shenmue 3 a reality. "

In the final hours of the Kickstarter, Suzuki will be joined by key members of the development team to countdown to the end. The stream will be available here at 12 AM UK time (4 PM PST).

Shenmue 3 was announced during Sony's E3 2015 press conference. During the event, Suzuki appeared on stage alongside PlayStation's Adam Boyes to launch a Kickstarter funding effort for the sequel.

Suzuki said the game would be a "full-on Shenmue experience," and asked for $2 million in initial funding to start work on the project.

It crossed $1 million mark within a couple of hours, and just a few hours later, reached its funding goal. It has since gone on to break the $5 million milestone.

Suzuki recently addressed questions regarding the funding of Shenmue 3 and Sony's involvement in the project, ensuring fans that crowdsourced "funds are going strictly to Ys Net for development of Shenmue 3."
