Shaquille O'Neal company trademarks Shaqfighter

Trademark filing for Shaqfighter covers video games, entertainment services, and an animated series.

Mine 'O Mine, the company that runs Shaquille O'Neal's Shaq.com, has trademarked Shaqfighter.

The filing suggests (via Siliconera) there might be plans to resurrect Shaq's fighting game legacy with "entertainment services, namely, providing online games," alongside "a website featuring electronic and video games and news" alongside "music, videos, television programs, movies, animated series, and other multimedia materials in the field of computer and video games."

1994's Shaq Fu saw the now-retired NBA star feature in a 2D fighting game on Super Nintendo and Genesis. The game was critically panned at the time, leading to the creation of Shaqfu.com -- a website dedicated to finding and destroying every copy of Shaq Fu in existence.

In Shaq Fu, Shaquille O'Neal was transported to another dimension to rescue a young boy from an evil mummy called Sett-Ra.

Earlier this year Shaq appeared in ShaqDown on iOS, which featured a mix of platforming and endless runner style gameplay.

In a few years, there will be a site dedicated to destroying all copies of this game assuming it isn't digital.

The only way I could see this being at all interesting, would be for Shaq to get more NBA players (past and present) and make a Def Jam Fight For NY style fighter. That could potentially be awesome.

Did....I just travel back in time to the 90s?  Since when after 1999 has Shaq been relevant?

Isn't everything taxed already?

Anyway, if this is the way it's gonna be, let's also tax kiddy games because they entertain kids. It might seem pointless, but hey... MONEY! I'm pretty sure that's how they think.

Oh word. I can see it know; Shaq rebelling against the evil contract lawyers to save Basketball, or fried chicken, or the purple drank factory or what ever. The health kits are Icey-Hot packs and the game actually gives you coupon codes to buy real Icey-hot

Explain to me why this guy is famous again. What's that you say?? He's really good at putting an orange ball through a hoop?? Give this man $1,000,000,000,000 can''t let him fade away into the ghetto

Shaquille O'Neal is a tool for the government! Anything to make him and his image to get more money for the government! It's such a dumb trademark aswell. Even Donald Trump couldn't trademark 'You're Fired'

@ziproy The only reason Shaq and people like him get into the NBA is because they're living breathing cases of overactive pituitary glands.  Hell, you know how Larry Bird got drafted?  He was a garbage man and was taking people's trash when someone just HAPPENED to walk by and notice how gigantic he was.  The rest is history.

@91210user I don't watch much TV, at all.
Sure trademarks CAN be a big deal, but why, if the government was involved, would they go for Shaq trademarks? Like I said, that's some far fetched Men in Black crap. The people in high governmental places are acting stupid as hell, but still... Shaq?
