Ubi Soft Entertainment has announced the beginning of the North American closed beta test of Shadowbane, its upcoming online role-playing game. The game has been in development for more than two years at Texas-based Wolfpack Studios.

Shadowbane is set in a medieval fantasy world known as Aerynth, and it combines role-playing and strategy game elements by focusing on combat between groups of players in addition to combat between players and computer-controlled opponents. The game also features a dynamic world in which players can help the game evolve by building castles, gathering armies, and taking part in large-scale wars.

Shadowbane is scheduled for release in the first half of 2002. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
