Shadow of the Eternals well down on Kickstarter goal with only a day to go

Spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness less than halfway to funding target.

With less than 24 hours left in its Kickstarter campaign, Shadow of the Eternals is finding itself well short of its $750,000 target, nabbing only $312,000 in pledges so far.

Shadow of the Eternals--which had been billed as the spiritual successor to the critically revered Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem--has until midnight on Friday August 23 to make its target.

The game's Kickstarter campaign was relaunched on July 25 and featured a commitment from Metal Gear Solid voice actor David Hayter to play the lead role of detective Paul Becker. The game's initial Kickstarter campaign was suspended in June over "new and exciting opportunities," according to developer Precursor Games.

Shadow of the Eternals is a single-player, third-person action adventure game with horror elements that is said to span 8 to 10 hours. It is in development using Crytek's CryEngine 3 for the PC and Wii U, and the PC version will be DRM-free.

Shadow of the Eternals is scheduled to launch by October 2014. For more, check out GameSpot's interview with Precursor Games founder Denis Dyack.

Developers need to stop asking for their already PAYING CUSTOMERS to PAY TO DEVELOP their game.

Dennis Dyack + Eternal Darkness: One hit wonder.

I'm a Nintendo fan. (One of the really annoying hardcore ones)

This looks crap. I have no interest in this game, whatsoever.

Fed up reading pointless stories about a game that doesn't exist, not many people are interested, or it would have reached it's goal.

I take it you only have a certain amount of time to put your idea on Kickstarter. I never even thought about that but I guess it makes some sort of sense. How long has it been around? Or I guess I should ask, how long have things like Kickstarter been around?

I almost wish they could get their shit together and actually make too human how it was supposed to be made and make a good eternal darkness game, but they probably should just die as a company.

Gee, I am surprised. if Dyack really wants to help his projects he should just fade into the background and become a non-public member of his team. At this point his name is pretty much cancer to his company.

They didn't get the point the first time around. Not even close.

a Wii U box copy would've made more sense than PC only. what kind of Wii U backer wants a digital copy on those titchy memories.

Denis Dyack, disappear, please.. You haven't done the business any favors since your 1 hit wonder in Eternal Darkness

I hope they will get funding from another source.

Really wanting to have that game on PC. 8-\

i was  presented as survival horror. From live stream  talk and trailer   can't find  this element of the game anywhere but puzzle game. For that reason , i can't fund it.I could see progress  15 days in that it wasn't going make it too.

Not even nostalgia can overcome Denis Dyack and Child Pr0n.

Kind of a shame really, I wonder if I can get my money back.

I'm actually glad this isn't going to happen. I was reading the comments on the Kickstarter page and it's full of people goading other people into spending more money than they can afford to fund the game.

That's just shit behaviour from where I'm sitting. Yeah get people into financial trouble to fund a game they will get no return from outside of playing the game which they could have bought for less than 30 dollars with a pledge.

Insane shit going on there.

I hope finally this will make people realize that we don't care about this game, or other dumb nintendo titles on kickstarter.

I think the big problem is that they waited so long that even most people who loved the game just don't give a shit anymore.  At least that's my problem with it.

The sanity effects are so outdated that playing the game now, you would get really annoyed because of the culture now a days and how people use computers. Talk about a forgettable experience!

I pledged $140, and I don't want my money back.. really hope they can figure this out somehow.

I do want this game to become reality. However, it's just so expensive...I get that it might take a lot of money to make, but that's just a little too much for me to actually financially support its release. Especially because they haven't really shown much other than what the game looks like.

They haven't even shown how it will play in terms of the fighting and magic spells, puzzles, the horror aspect, and so on...

Well, it was going to be made by devs who defrauded their publisher while making the absolutely terrible X-men Destiny, who stole code from Epic and lied about it, who had all their games ordered by the courts to be PHYSICALLY DESTROYED and bankrupted their company.

What did they expect?  There is no reason whatsoever to trust they would have produced a good game or even finished it.

Yeah definately don't trust this idiot with making a franchise or single title, He actually said the best parts and features TOO HUMAN was saved for TOO HUMAN 3.  LOLWUT?

So the kickstarter fails yet again, I wonder what excuse they will put up for pulling it just before the time period expires this time.

They set the development costs too high! It's like they were looking to get paid for making the game. People don't want to pay your inflated salaries!

@dr_jashugan They've failed twice already. I feel bad for the people who really want it but the Dyack expose means nobody will go near it apart from obsessed ED fans. Even if it's all untrue the damage is done.

They need a publisher or it's never going to happen.

@wiiutroll I could tell after day 1. Successful KS reach their goal after 1 day, or 2 max.

They will probably try another KS and set a goal of 375k.

@wiiutroll there's a horrible monster in the trailer. clearly you will have to survive by defeating them. how is it not a survival horror?

blueinheaven

@nait2k4 If you pledged for it you haven't lost any money unless they meet their funding goal, which they won't. So you lose nothing.

@91210user  'because of the culture now a days and how people use computers' - that doesn't even mean anything. troll harder next time.

NaturallyEvil

@91210user No way, I bet they would still be funny to someone who is experiencing it for the first time.  Especially since I don't know of any other games that have managed to duplicate it, except for maybe that one level in Too Human, but nobody played that.

@Thanatos2k Accusing someone of defrauding/stealing from a publisher (Activision of all people? Bobby Kotick and gang who sued Zampella and West) without a shred of evidence sure holds up...on the internet I guess.

@Atheosis it's also coming to PC and PS4. do those platforms cause you to roll around laughing as well or did you just write this without reading about the project first?

Thanatos2k

@ominous_prime Dude,. there is no way they could have made the game for the amount they were asking for.  Games cost millions, not hundreds of thousands.

@azillionreasons @wiiutroll I was always horrified by all that  stuff trying to kill Pacman and constantly wondered how I would survive it all.

Pacman: first survival horror game. Ever.

@blueinheaven @nait2k4 Nah, I actually didn't pledge this one, it never really interested me. Still a shame they couldn't find enough backers.

What you talking about, which part of my previous comment make it look like I was 'trolling'? I hate to break it to you but everyone is complaining about glitches and flaws online! Playing the game now, it's hard to side with them now to accept them as 'effects'.

@NaturallyEvil @91210user

Beat the scammers who plish with there 'sanity effects'? Maybe you're right, it's nice to know that game is good for teaching the players something!  Yeah maybe a sequel would be nicely presented for the modern day of games!

@JediKnight366 @azillionreasons @CKeen666 Who said anything about being eligible to criticize? There's an old saying however - 'if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything', unless of course there is some intelligent argument behind your comment (which there wasn't) or you are a peer of the person you are criticizing (I doubt that's the case) or you speak on behalf of everyone (clearly not). Otherwise you just sound obnoxious.

You said it yourself! People aren't investing in the game. If you cannot man up to how times have changed since the release of the other game, then stop replying to my comments.

azillionreasons
azillionreasons

@91210user @azillionreasons no one is complaining about glitches, you can make up as much stuff as you like, it doesn't matter. The game is going to be made whether it funds this time or not. The team believes in what they're doing, and thousands of people want to play it. It's not easy to get that much money up front, but they wanted the game to look as good as possible.

@Centuryon Did you read the second one?  At all?

How are direct quotes "anonymous sources"?

hateyourface

@Centuryon Either way, you have to admit that after the combined failures of Too Human and X-Men: Destiny, it was highly questionable whether or not SK could produce a good game again. Especially on such a meager budget.

Centuryon

@Thanatos2k @Centuryon Lol, what evidence? The word of anonymous sources? That's the standard of evidence now? Please, show me the proof, if there is any. There is a reason other news outlets refused to publish this story...think on that.
