Shadow of the Beast remake coming to PS4

Sony remaking classic Amiga action game for next-generation platform.

by

Sony is currently developing a Shadow of the Beast remake for the PlayStation 4, the company announced today during its Gamescom 2013 media briefing in Cologne, Germany.

The original Shadow of the Beast released on Amiga in 1989. Shadow of the Beast II and Shadow of the Beast III were released in the years thereafter.

No release date for the Shadow of the Beast remake for PS4 was announced.

Elsewhere during its presentation today, Sony announced a PlayStation Vita price cut and Little Big Planet Hub for the PlayStation 3, among other things.

Fantastic! I'm feeling more potential from Sony and continue like this and I shall be very happy!

So long as it don't go the same way as that awful Altered Beast game on PS2 I'll be happy

Ehh, I never liked Shadow Of The Beast. Except for the music.

If they could get to work on a remake of Turrican or The Chaos Engine, that'd be fantastic.

aw hell yes, but give us a better ending because it was unforgivingly difficult finishing the original.

It wasn't really 'good' exactly, but it was notable for having outstanding graphics at the time. Other than that it was just a platform game with an elevated difficulty level.

Never heard if it but the trailer is a bit interesting and when it comes to remaking a classic or old game then that means ppl loved it.

never played the original, don't even think I've heard of it, but if it's getting the remake treatment it must be good, and it's coming to PS4, will definitely keep an eye on this game

Well that was out of left-field. Have half of the kids today even heard of the original games? I remember it being an Amiga 500 system-seller in this country because of the amazing-looking artwork in the game graphics. Shops almost always had Shadow of the Beast running as the demo game in-store.

I'm hotly awaiting that remake of Hunt the Wumpus.

??? Where did that come from?

I remember the passions being expressed when the game was announced and other kids were reading about it at the time, in paper magasines...

But really, what do they expect? This is a good game of the past that would have just crap outdated platforming mechanics for me. I am done with platforming - unless there can be something as good as Braid or another inventive gameplay. What are you guys thinking? Anyone looking for it?

Shadow of the Beast... I remember this game on the Lynx. It was a great port of the Amiga version.

Obviously, like all versions of classic-to-modern, it'll be in 3D, and unless they show footage, they could F it up (ala: Golden Axe or Shinobi) or do it forgettable justice (ala: Ghouls N Ghosts) or it could be something of a classic (ala: Ninja Gaiden).

I remember the parallax scrolling on the Amiga 500...and the amazing guitar sound byte on the death screen. Brutal load times off 3.5" discs though.  Ah, the old days....

Oh man, you know how a lot of gamers have that one game that they regret not being able to beat?  Well for me, it was this game...it was SO relentless!  Fester's Quest is another one that haunts me to this day...

This remake looks like a supercharged Akuji: The Heartless.

Shadow of the Beast rocked.  It was on just about every platform back in the day;  Amiga, PC, Genesis,  SNES, Atari Lynx.     The Amiga version had the best music.   VERY hard game (no continues), but a classic.

@The_Last_Paladi Yeah it was hard as hell, I only ever managed to complete it with cheats. Castle of Illusion was more my speed back then :)

Not sure if you're being sarcastic cuz this whole press conference showed that Sony has nothing for launch lineup. Claiming to have 50 AAA studios developing world class games for PS4, and none of them are available for show, not even a name of the title.

@Chr0noid Who has the rights for the franchise? Husdon soft was closed and they created the game.
