Seven Kingdoms II Gold

The on-again-off-again relationship between Enlight and Ubi heats up as Seven Kingdoms II goes gold.

Hong Kong-based Enlight Software and Ubi Soft's are on the brink of their next battle as Enlight announced that Seven Kingdoms II has gone gold and been sent to manufacturing. Now that the title is complete, the company is already taking orders for copies of the game through its web site, and the game is expected to ship in early September.

The battle? Enlight announced last week that it had not reached a publishing agreement with Ubi Soft after Enlight's publishing agreement with Interactive Magic was transferred to Ubi Soft when the company purchased I-Magic's CD-ROM division. According to Ubi Soft, after the publishing contract was transferred, Enlight's founder Trevor Chan asked for more money. Since the contract had already signed, terms of the agreement weren't negotiable. Enlight then announced plans to self-publish its game without Ubi's assistance. As GameSpot News reported yesterday, Ubi stated that if the company attempted to publish the game itself, or if it publishes the game with another publisher, Ubi would seek legal action due to its claim that the original contract with I-Magic is still legally binding.

In the release issued by Enlight on Thursday, the company claims that it has never had a publishing agreement with Ubi Soft but said it would talk to Ubi and other publishers about publishing its game. It said that the contract it held with Interactive Magic was terminated when I-Magic ceased its CD-ROM business.

So it seems to be a case of one company vs. another. If the two companies come to legal blows or settle the problems between them, we'll inform you as soon as we know.
