Sega teases Castle of Illusion remake

New video suggests publisher to release new version of 1990 Sega Genesis Mickey Mouse game this summer.

It appears DuckTales won't be the only classic game to receive a high-definition update this summer. Sega today released a teaser video suggesting Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is headed for a re-release this summer.

The 37-second video (below) contains imagery similar to that of the original game, including marching toy enemy soldiers and a shadowy figure that appears to be main villain Queen Mizrabel.

In addition, the video ends with 1990-2013 flashed on the bottom, suggesting this new game will be a remake of the original.

No platforms for the game were mentioned in the teaser trailer. However, a Brazilian product rating lists the game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U.

Just the other day I was humming... or more like... "wah wah wahing" the music to stage 4 where Mickey is jumping on all the books, in tea cups etc. Awesome game. They have gigantic shoes to fill.

This game is so good, although I can play it on my genesis any time so I'm not really sure why I need a remake.

The only news that could possibly top this for me would be Shenmue 3. This is quite literally the bestestest news EVER!

I hope they keep the sound effect they had of Mickey's head knocking on the ceiling. Officially my favourite sound effect of any game at any time.

Wow. I did not think this was going up for a remake. however, This gen is probably best for it.

Never played it.. But I did have a great time playing World of Illusion as Mickey and Donald co-op with my little sister, that was a good game

I loved the entire slate of Sega Disney games, they were really high quality for their time. Well... except that Fantasia, I suppose. That game was dumber than a sack of blondes.

Loved that game! Some of the best visuals of the 16bit era! Remake would be nice.

I rather they remake QUACKSHOT, imho, the best Disney game for the Genesis.

What we need is a remake of World Of Illusion. I actually prefered that game.
That and Mickey Mania. I wasn't much a fan of Castle Of Illusion.

This is bring back childhood memories to the old Mickey on Genesis. I hope they succeed, this game deserves a spectacular overhaul.

I'm glad they are making a remakes; I found these to be a lot of fun (both Castle of Illusion and Ducktales).  Hopefully these do well so we can get some other old games remade like Mickey Mania (SCD), or better yet, Mickey Mousecapades (NES).

So excited for this if they do it right! The original is a really cool game and had a weird unsettling creepy vibe to it. I hope they can capture that again.

They should make a package deal. Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Castle of Illusion and Ducktales.

Of course… I can’t remember if the rights to those titles are all the same. Just saying if we are remaking great 2d games from Disney.

Megaman. Or just a good Megaman game would be nice.

I don't remember Castle of Illusion being particularly fantastic...at least not enough to warrant a remake.

Same deal with Ducktales. Amid the deluge of platformers and licensed properties, Ducktales was unremarkable. That said, it's mostly just bitterness over Capcom deciding that it warrants attention while Megaman continues to languish.

To be honest...I'd rather they remake Darkwing Duck. I had loads of fun with that game.

World of Illusion was far superior.  I would buy that in a heartbeat.

We already basically got this with the Epic Mickey game on the 3DS... Seems like more of a cash in really in the same vein as the Ducktales "remake."

I like these darker themed Disney games.  It reminds me of the Disney that I used to know, and not this Hannah Montana bullcrap

Got burned by the 3DS supposed spiritual sequel, but to be fair it was the Epic Mickey painting garbage that hurt that game. Completely killed the pacing.

Castle of Illusion remake has me very optimistic. Would be so awesome if in addition to the remake they also included the original with it. I'll get it on Vita. Man now I've got Castle of Illusion music stuck in my head! God that game ruled. This game just needs to strike the right balance between staying true to the original and updating/modernising what needs updating.

@Icepick_Trotter You do realise the product listing for the Castle of Illusion remake was up before DuckTales was even announced, right? Sega copied noone. It's just a coincidence that both games are being made at the same time.

@nuno999 That game was awesome. Back in the day Disney released tons of stellar games.

@rogerpenna Castle is my preferred out of the two, but yes, Quackshot is aching for a HD remake in light of Castle of Ducktales being announced.

@Yomigaeru "

I don't have much to say about Castle of Illusion since I've never played it, but...

"That said, it's mostly just bitterness over Capcom deciding that it warrants attention while Megaman continues to languish."

I totally understand, but the thing is, Ducktales was Capcom's highest-selling game for the NES, doing even better than Mega Man 2 (which is the best-selling game in the whole franchise).

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/sfii-snes-is-capcoms-best-selling-game

It's also one of the few licensed games on the NES that's actually good. The only other game you could maybe say that about other than the rest of the Capcom/Disney collabs was Sunsoft's Batman.
