Fans of Sega's role-playing franchise Shining Force might be glad to hear that Japanese Web site ITmedia has released a batch of fresh screenshots of the series' latest game, Shining Force Exa. The screens show some of the game's settings and provide a glimpse of the battle system in Exa--which will use the battle- and character-development system from last year's Shining Force Neo and will carry on the series tradition of including numerous races and character classes. Sega's Shining Force Exa is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 2 during the fourth quarter of the year in Japan.

SEGA should do a new RES!!
I liked Shining Force NEO. It was an excellent stat brawler.
Sega was never a sequel farm before they went 3rd party. They used to handily match every sequel with several completely unique titles, and even the sequels frequently featured entirely new graphics *and* gameplay engines. In the early days they wouldn't even let genre determine what a sequel would be. See TJ&E to Panic on Funkatron, Shining in the Darkness to Shining Force, Phantasy Star 1 to PS 2, Zillion 1 to Triformation, and jeez I don't know how many others. Shining Force was good because Sega was focused on innovating a new play style, now they're just playing off the PS2's jRPG fad...
I agree with everyone who is unconvinced by this game. Just because Shining Force 1-3 were some of the best RPGs (sorry, princemedion, SRPGs) ever, doesn't mean that they'll ever be good again. In fact, the games since the first three would seem to dictate the opposite. That being the case, I'll forever pay attention to the Shining series in the hopes that someday the magic will return (and until then, I'll just keep playing the first three over and over and over....)
Sega needs a new console, I'm tired of only 3 consoles competing.
Is it me, or do those screenshots seem to suggest of some sort of free camera control system? This game is looking better and better every time I see it.
I really thought the last one was a bad game. Hopefully this one doesnt turn out like it, but I wouldnt get my hopes up.
Given how mediocre the last Shining game for the PS2 is, I can't really say I am excited
Sega can go dig themselves a grave as far as I'm concerned, Shining FORCE is not a RPG, it's an SRPG. Why the feel the constant need to screw it up is beyond me, not to mention that Neo sucked as did Tears and nothing has been good in the series since SF3 which was the last game done by Camelot... Stupid sega should have given the rights of the series to a company that could actually DO SOMETHING GOOD WITH THEM. /endrant
looks good so far
So I suppose that makes this a 2007 PS2 release in America?
I'm so excited?
