Last month, rumors surfaced that Sega was preparing a new game titled OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PSP. Today, Sega officially announced Coast 2 Coast for a March 2006 release on PlayStation 2 and PSP, but the supposed Xbox version was replaced by a PC edition of the game.
OutRun 2006 is actually a compilation of sorts, featuring 12 licensed Ferraris and 30 stages taken from OutRun 2 (which was released on the Xbox in 2004) and the new arcade game OutRun 2 SP. The game will also include a new mission structure, a license mode, and online play for up to six players. The PSP and PlayStation 2 versions will have platform-specific missions and extra content that unlocks when the two systems are hooked up with one another.
Development on the game has been entrusted to UK-based Sumo Digital, the team behind the original OutRun 2. Sumo Digital has previously worked on Virtua Tennis: World Tour for the PSP, and is currently preparing the PSP version of TOCA Race Driver 2: The Ultimate Racing Simulator for Codemasters.
... PC Version?!
PC version? Finally!
Who cares if it isn't on the Xbox. The point is a new Outrun is coming out and that's awesome.
outrun = mad corny
I have it for Xbox. Just wish more played it online. I would love to race against other people. Perhaps Sega will simply release new tracks and cars for the X. Remember, you can get new content by downloading. That is benefit for owning Xbox. Who here wants to race? Also, are there any DC gamers out there? I liked playing online with the DC but since its demise, people just don't game on it no more. Long live the Dreamcast!
Can't wait to see it...
Hey trj156! S-U-C-K I-T! lawl
P-p-p PC Version!? ........................................................................................................................................................... Sega... I love you.
I was really looking to buy an Xbox version sure if there's a 360 nice but it'll be awhile before i'll get a 360 sure I bought OutRun2 two months BEFORE I had an xbox , but i'm not gonna do that if there's a 360 version as for a PS2 version I hope I don't hear that I need a psp to unlock all the stuff in the console version cause I just don't do handhelds. I guess we'll all see what happens.
its unfair for us the xbox fans , but a 360 would be nice
Sega doesn't want to compete with the 360, which is why there is no xbox version. I wouldn't be suprised to see Shadow crack the top 20 on GC, it's the very reason they hop platforms like they do.
truuuu!
They don't have an Xbox version because there already IS an Xbox version. What the hell is everyone whining about? Gotdayum, gimme a break. Does EVERY game need to be spread out to every console simultaneously? Half of you didn't even BUY Outrun 2 on Xbox to begin with, so what the hell are you yapping about? In any case, their multiplatform strategy is actually how you should do it. Making one title and spreading it thin to 5 different platforms is lame and diminishes the quality of the title. It just makes it feel worthless in the end; like it's watered down or something. Each console SHOULD have their own title from each studio. That's a lot more respectable than the other way around.
Yeah, your probably right , it seems like some japanese developers give up so easily on the xbox if the game doesn't do so well.
all annoying fanboys aside (cough*sturok*cough), sega probably isnt releasing this game on xbox because of disappointing sales from outrun 2.
Wierd cancelled the xbox version for PC. I wonder if theyre gonna make the PC version really nice on the eyes. Im glad to see this as I am PC Gamer. Also Im glad to see Capcom making their best selling games for PC now.
Sad that there isn't an Xbox version. Perhaps an Xbox360 version?
Ahahaha, Xbox fans can SUCK IT.
360 only from now on! If it doesnt add to my gamerscore, I dont want it!!!! *drools*
Sega's multiplatform strategy really pisses me off. It's like they assume their long-term fans, many of who snubbed other consoles in favour of Sega ones, now own all three consoles. This is on Xbox, that's on Gamecube, this is on PS2, that's on PSP, that's on the DS . . . It's infuriating! Sega need to either pick a console and stick with it, or adapt to EA's strategy.
Yes! Finally out for the PS2! Loved the Outrun 2 SP on arcades. Looking forward to this :D
Man i cant wait to get this, i missed out of it since i dont have an xbox, but its nice to see us ps2 people get a chance to relive Outrun.
I'm sure they have a yet-to-be-announced Xbox 360 version under development instead of xbox.
Just like the movie industry, what's old is new again....
no xbox version! noooooooooooooooooooo!
Wow. No XBOX version? Not that the PS2 version will be unplayable or anything, but I'd have liked to have seen this on the XBOX for a budget price of $20. We'll see.
