Sega reopening Conduit this fall

High Voltage Software's original first-person shooter series returns to the Wii with new four-player co-op mode, better online cheat-busting.

by

Longtime licensed-game developer High Voltage Software made its first big push into the world of original intellectual properties last year with the Wii release of The Conduit. Published by Sega, the first-person shooter sold more than 150,000 copies worldwide, good enough to justify the two companies reteaming on a sequel.

Conduit 2 will introduce split-screen co-op modes to the series.

Sega today announced that it will be releasing Conduit 2 in North America and Europe this fall. The game is once again being developed as a Wii exclusive by the team at High Voltage. The single-player mode of the game will pick up the original game's alien invasion storyline, with Sega promising dynamic environments, player customization options, and giant boss enemies.

As for multiplayer, Conduit 2 will introduce new co-op modes for online play, or offline with up to four players sharing a split-screen. Sega is also promising "increased multiplayer security" for the game, in light of the cheating that undermined the online play of the original game

For more on the original game, check out GameSpot's review of The Conduit.

I am so excited for this game. I hope we get DLC and tons of varied map types. Also I can't wait for everyone to have SINGLE SHOT ROCKET LAUNCHERS if any at all. I can't believe everyone made them automatic in the first game.

WTF? this game is the first one! okay, i have to admit that the game is very redundant, but why the hell would you want a game not frustrating? if you can beat it in a snap, its not worth buying. most multi-player games are also repetitive, killing someone isn't different every other time you do it. I'm sure the second game will amaze people.

Sounds like it will be good enough to warrant buying, 4 player co-op and the slick controls will make a good enough shooter.

The first game had a 3 hour long single player campaign. Multiplayer matches that took 8 minutes to start. And the worst script ever written. On the bright side- it's literally impossible for this sequel to not live up to the standards of the first game.

YESSSSS! I bought the conduit 1 about a month after it came out and it was great. I played over like 140 hours on it lol. When I saw the guns and heard about the splitscreen and more multiplayer modes I was so excited. I cant wait until November. I am happy that lots of games come out in november because my birthday is in november. November 5th! 3 days after the game comes out!

It would be cool if you could knock weapons out of enemies' hands in single player on this one.

already sounds better than the original. Im just hoping the story is longer and a little more in depth than the first

I enjoyed the first one a lot, but I'm gonna stay cautious on this one. Especially since a two year old port was better than the first Conduit.

Hope they make the single player better and make some customization.

They also need an online leaderboard. If they fix it the game may have potential.

The only good FPS on the Wii is getting a sequel? Sweet. And it seems the only 2 things I had to complain about the game are being fixed. Offline multiplayer and online security. Definately gonna pick it up.

@vgshine Agreed. The game wasn't too bad, but it was anything great, either. I give it a 6 or 7.

Wait, Conduit 1 had hacking problems? Is it still playable for honest people like me? I never tried it online, but planned to eventually. :(

Finally this first game was great but it needed offline multiplayer, more diverse weapons, better online, and campaign levels that aren't the same. This is exactly what the Wii needs. I'm really hoping they keep all the custom options.

so i guess it only takes 150 thousnad sells, for them to make profit on wii ,

Do the enemies react realisticly to getting shot this time? I kind of miss that feature in fps games. Seems like they did it all the time back in the days of the N64 with games like Turok 2, but you never hear about it any more.

good thing about stoping hackers on the game is we dont lose all the time. but there is a bad side not really bad but small bad. no 16 hour hacked beta level.

the first game wasn't a bad game nor was it a good game. It was..... a game.... just a game. But it sounds like the sequel has a good chance of being a solid game.... and not just a game.

I like the idea of split-screen. If Sega can pull through and make a decent wi-fi, it might be a good game.

I haven't played the original yet, but it's nice that they are making a new one. :)

split screen and co-op! I can't believe that the people at wii have finally realized that these are essential and fun elements to a first-person shooter. it should be a great addition to a fun series. But they HAVE to fix the amount of time it took to get into a mulitplayer in the first game, and actually put in a half-decent campaign.

I never played the first one. I might pick it up if it's cheap enough, which i'm sure it is by now. If I like it i'll more than likely give the sequel a try cuz I love multiplayer co-op :D

The first one was a disaster. Frequent lock ups, up to 5 minutes to get into an online match (not including having to hard boot because of glitched wall-spawning...), cheating and lag, and lousy controls (hey HVS... next time get the controls half decent without having to spend hours tweaking them. Even better, throw in some presets like MW:R so we can quickly find a setting that works and then play with it from there if we wish). With that said, for a "party-centric" system, the Wii is sorely lacking in split-screen FPS games. Especially considering its control setup. Fix the problems, include patch support, and include various control presets and I MIGHT consider renting this.

Completely random, but that video review should really get its own medal for monotiny. He just stands there reading from a prompter, saying the same stuff over and over again. That video review could have been done in half the length and been just fine. Just saying.

Yess soo sososo happy it's getting splitscreen co op of 4 player fights.now i'll just wait for the second instead of getting first because has co op and probably better online and they'll fix all wrongs.

i thought the game was pretty darn good, and i had a lot of fun playing it. The boxed talk screens were kind of annoying (voice acting was not that good either). Also its not like halo or COD has 1500 different ways of a completing an objective either, that is also linear game play right? Maybe they would have had a better experience if they played on the hardest mode from the start, instead of super easy mode. I know that made it terribly fun for me even if i kept on dying. Finally excellent job on just reading the teleprompter....

Hopefully the next one will be SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER this time. And they'd better not end the game before you actually fight the guy you were going to fight like the last one. As for splitscreen and online and offline coop....AWESOME. What about The Grinder? Where has that game gone by the way?

@ chefstubbies yeah i get what you mean a did go over the top ther i just dont see the point in complaining about it if your not goin to get it then just ignore it theres plenty games for 360 n wii that are rubbish bt i dont complain and i wud rather play the conduit than some 360 games that iv played.

Meh...I had high hopes for the first one, but I ended up underwhelmed (I actually quit playing before I finished; haven't done that since Daikatana!). Just re-enforces my opinion (before you flame me, keep in mind this is MY PERSONAL OPINION! If yours is different, then more power to you!) that shooters are better with a conventional, twin-stick controller.

One of the few games on Wii worth playing. Other than some great games (Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros, New Mario Bros, Mario Kart), and a few very good games (The Conduit, Prince of Persia, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, and some others), there hasnt been much on the Wii worth playing to date, which is a shame because I love my Wii. Let's hope this sequel does the trick!

Why bother? if its not a mini game collection or a Nintendo title its not going to sell.

@leemass21 I don't like The Conduit. That does not mean that I am high, nor do I need to grow up, nor am I pathetic, contrary to what you just claimed... It's just a game. There's no need to become so overly passionate about it...

JackHoleFace00
JackHoleFace00

whoooaa!!! 150k copies?! That's incredible! Oh wait, that's actually really sad, especially given the 52,000,000 people who own a Wii! Face it, folks, the Wii, by circumstance or by default, is not a system for core gamers.

Tri-Enforcer
Tri-Enforcer

Glad to see that the problems that plagued the first game are being addressed in the sequel: level design, online multiplayer hacks, local multiplayer, and a more developed online upgrade system with perks. This is sounding promising already. I hope the art direction and backgrounds get better also, the character models and graphics looked good, but the art was uninspired and backgrounds were drab with no detail. Can't wait for more info to come forth.
