Sega Releases CART

TOKYO - Sega announced that it will release a racing game later this spring called Super Speed Racing. It is a realistic racing simulation based on CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams), featuring 19 existing courses such as Long Beach, The Milwaukee Mile, and Detroit.

Sega is currently negotiating to secure the rights to use official team names and drivers as much as it can, and the game's stats are based on the 1998 season. It's too bad for Japanese CART fans as Naoki Hattori (Walker Racing) won't be in the game.

This game is slated for a release this spring. Its release will coincide with the second official CART tournament, Firestone Firehawk 500, which will be held April 8 to 10 as the second round of this year's CART series.

The announcement of this game is good news for American gamers who are awaiting the launch of the Dreamcast. But it's a bit of a surprise to Japanese gamers, because the popularity of CART is nowhere near the popularity of Formula One.
