Sega draws Shining Blade for PSP

Latest action role-playing game installment in Shining series due for spring 2012 in Japan.

Action role-playing game fans in Japan may recall that the last entry in Sega's Shining series was Shining Hearts for the PSP. The latest issue of Famitsu reports (via Andriasang) that Sega has a new action-RPG entry in the Shining Heart series in the works for Sony's portable system.

The cast of Shining Blade striking a pose.

The latest entry stars a red-haired "Soul Blader" warrior called Reiji. Accompanying him in his quest to stop the Dragonia Empire in the game's world are Altia the bow-wielding elf and Fenrill the half-dog half-man fighter.

According to Andriasang's report, Shining Blade's battle system is rumored to combine Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love's ARMS system and Valkyria Chronicles' BLiTZ system. The RPG will have character designs from artist Tony Taka and music from Hiroki Kikuta, both of whom contributed to past Shining titles like Shining Tears, Shining Wind, and Shining Hearts. The game will cost 6,279 yen ($82) at retail and 5,600 yen ($73) as a download on PlayStation Network.

Shining Blade is slated for a spring 2012 release in Japan. An English version of the game has yet to be announced.

I never like any Shining games (Wisdom, Darkness, Holy Ark, Soul, Tears, Wind, and Hearts) other than Shining Force (the strategize ones on the Sega and Nintendo systems, not the crappy PS2 ones) so I probably won't get this one.

@slyfox_28: Shining Force 3 WAS a gem that unfortunately I never got to play. They should release THAT with the two remastered scenarios over here for the PS3 and/or the 360... especially considering the Saturn remakes they're doing lately. I don't know if they'll do it though considering just how many years have gone by already. But then, someone was thoughtful enough to resurrect Guardian Heroes, so who knows? They're FINALLY bringing Sonic CD back, so... I suppose ANYTHING is possible. @syam32245340: I tend to doubt we'll get to see this even if it IS coming for the PSP over in Japan. Given their stand on Valkyria Chronicle 3 and their outright hesitation with Phantasy Star Online 2, I don't think we'll be seeing anymore PSP titles over here. They MIGHT be waiting to see how the Vita does before they let us see anything else on their front as far as portable systems go... although BOTH the Vita AND the 3DS are getting Sonic Generations, so... I guess it's just a wait and see situation--as if that ever changes. ~_~

It's nice that there is still new game developed for the PSP. Hope they will make the English version too

@snxx I know what you mean and i would also say that there are 2 scenario's of Shining Force 3 that were never released in the US that are long overdue.

Nothing against these new "Shining action-RPGs", but what I would really love to see is Shining Force 4 with in all it's turn-based strategy glory.

good the know PSP still has games coming out for it. Spring 2012, but it is unlikely an english translation will happen. Sony is committed to seeing a 10 year lifespan for PSP? When the PSP launches in North America it will be almost 6years old. So another 4yrs of support can happen for PSP. They are bringing out the wi-fi less "PSvita looking" PSP revision (4001 series?) so maybe Sony and the gang will continue to support PSP after PSvita launches.

I loved Shining Tears. The anime not so much. But Tony Taka has some of the best character design that I have seen. So I would love to get this whether on the psp or the vita.

@Llama345 No they didn't. Japanese games are just that expensive.

Blah. It's not Shining Force so I can't bring myself to care. Seems like there's still a big following for the old games, not sure why they keep releasing the action RPG's,

Gee whiz! Another great looking game I'm never gonna get to play! At least we can HOPE it gets released outside of Japan.(even though that's had little success in the past)

I'm bitter at Sega over what they've done to the Shining Series. I wish to hell they'd quit putting out these terrible action rpgs and take the series back to its glory days of Srpgs...
