Sega arcade shooters compiled for Wii

Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns set for release exclusively on Nintendo's console this fall with new score combo system, unlockable weapon features.

Last year, Sega breathed new life into one of its arcade light gun shooter franchises with House of the Dead: Overkill on the Wii. The publisher today revealed plans to revisit two more of its arcade light gun efforts on Nintendo's system this fall in the form of the Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack.

Sega lets Wii gamers save Los Angeles, assuming they think it's worth saving.

While Overkill was an all-new installment in the horror-themed light gun series, the Arcade Hits Pack will be closer to straight ports of the original 1996 Gunblade NY and its 1999 follow-up LA Machineguns: Rage of the Machines. Sega is including a handful of new features, however, including a revamped chain combo scoring system and unlockable weapon features like rapid-fire or wide-shot options.

Both games give players helicopter-mounted machineguns with which to protect the United States from android invasions. In addition to the familiar locales suggested by the two games' titles, Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns will see players rain down a hail of bullets in Las Vegas, Yosemite National Park, and on Alcatraz Island.

It will be interesting to see if they can convey that unique arcade experience. I've got a hankering fer sum nostalgia. Is it just me or do arcades seem to be dying out. There aren't any near me for at least a 20 mile radius.

@MichaelRD77: "Nintendo just needs to step up their game,is all". Yeah! i guess nintendo it's really pleasing their gamers right now.

@chupamelpo: The Wii isn't just for "silly little kids". It's also for gamers, both casual AND hardcore. From games released in the past 20 or so years,or more recent games like Super Mario Galaxy,Super Smash Bros Brawl,Ghost Squad,House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return,Metroid and Legend of Zelda, the Wii has games for ALL gamers.Nintendo just needs to step up their game,is all. And if games such as this(Gunblade NY and LA) are not "appropriate" for kids, then why do you think we have a rating system? The only problem is that some parents are just so stupid that they ignore the ratings and get those inappropriate games for their kids.So if anything, blame the parents, not the game companies or ESRB.

@sonicnewgen360: I agree.Just like House of the Dead 1 and 4,the Jurassic Park arcade games should also be released on the Wii(and Xbox 360/PS3 for those that own an Xbox 360 or PS3).

Baaaah, I loved both Gunblades to death in the arcade, but I don't think it'll be as awesome without the mounted machine guns... On a side note, who DIDN'T dual wield both of the MGs at once while playing this game?

Sillygostly said " That's all well and good, but why hasn't the PS3/360 Sega Classic Collection been released on the Wii? " Because they wouldn't be able to charge $6.00 per Genesis game on the Virtual Console.

That's all well and good, but why hasn't the PS3/360 Sega Classic Collection been released on the Wii? =/

What if Virtua Cop was remade on Wii?

These games were improved from their original arcade counterparts even their graphics. The original Gunblade NY, which I died in the middle of the first level because of the targeting not repaired, has Saturn-like graphics. The previous Wii lightgun shooter is House of The Dead: Overkill.

Wii: Lightgun memories galore. If it gives me a reason not to give the system to a hobo in the street, fine by me.

Nice to see that while companies like capcom are making good games for the wii, Sega are making lazy ports of games no one wants to play. You got love this game industry.

These games were awesome when they released in the arcades. I still remember going Rambo style and paying double to use both guns at once, haha.

@Asagea_888 Agree with you 100%. I can see the calls to police from my neighbors now. "I hear maniacal screaming coming from his house. You gotta send the police to check."

Oh man, I loved playing LA Machineguns in the arcade. It was the only time I ever screamed like a maniac and not care if people were staring at me.

@Sonicplys: Indeed. I've been wanting a TC compliation since shortly after the Wii came out. I mean, can you imagine it? Using the Balance Board in place of the pedal? Time-oriented shooting instead of just random blasting? Ah... it would be a must-buy for me. Ah well, at least this might be the start of something.

How about Carnevil? That would be an awesome consol port to Wii

Why? Why didnt Namco make the Point Blank and Time Crisis collections? Instead we got Sega.
