Sega of America has today announced that Yuji Naka and Sonic Team are working on an all-new GameCube-exclusive platform game called Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. The game will see players assuming the titular role of a young boy named Billy who must save a once magical kingdom from an evil king who is threatening to plunge it into an eternal night.

As the title suggests, eggs will play a big part in the game. Players will roll eggs around the world as they progress, using them to solve puzzles and fight enemies. Eventually, they'll be able to hatch magical creatures from them that will enhance Billy's abilities. Today's press release also mentioned that players will have to learn to use the powers of a legendary suit, although no specific details have been released at this time.

"Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is pure Sonic Team magic," said Mike Fischer, vice president of marketing, Sega of America. "A dizzying blend of fast action, hypnotic gameplay, and one-of-a-kind characters, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is, without a doubt, the next big thing from the legendary Sonic Team."

Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is currently scheduled for release in the fall. We'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available.
