Sega, Activision reveal Wii sports comps

Wacky World of Sports brings tuna tossing to Wii late this year; Big League Sports: Summer arrives on both Nintendo formats this June.

by

If imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, Nintendo should be blushing pretty heavily right now. Its Wii Sports minigame compilation has spawned a host of "Mii-too" products and made the subgenre a frequent resident on the system's upcoming release schedule. Two more sports compilations were confirmed today in the form of Sega's Wacky World of Sports and Activision's Big League Sports: Summer.

Lumberjacks are inherently wacky.

Set for release late this year, Wacky World of Sports tackles an array of 10 competitive events that have yet to be adapted for the Wii, including furniture racing, tuna tossing, and extreme ironing. Beyond the multiplayer mayhem, Sega is also including a Tour mode, where players pick from a variety of characters and run a global gauntlet of wacky sports champions.

Activision is taking a more straightforward approach with its Big League Sports: Summer game for the Wii and DS. Arriving in stores this June, Big League Sports will present players with specific challenges in a variety of sports, including football, tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer, and baseball. The game will also support up to four players in a series of cooperative All Star-themed challenges.

Sega and Nintendo should be one company again. Activision seems to be better than the Sony game?

Par for the course for Modern Day Sega. Uninspired. Unecessary. Useless. Yeah, they made VC, but that's a PS3 entry and a rare instance of brilliance in years of producing junk games and crapping all over the face of their mascot.

Sega... oh how the mighty have fallen. Once one of the premier software publishers, at the forefront of gaming innovation, AND a major hardware manufacturer, both with consoles and at the arcades... now relegated to a near-second-tier publisher trying to cash in with shovelware ("extreme ironing"?) on its once biggest rival's system. Sad.

Wow. It's gotten to the point where Gamespot is now reporting two different sporting compilations from two different publishers in the SAME ARTICLE. Other than possibly being a lazy way to do this, I don't know what to say. Either of these games COULD be decent, but I won't be holding my breath or waiting in line when they're released. I would say more about this and the state of third party publishers on the Wii, but this is probably not the right article to be commenting about such a topic on. Sega, Activision, best of luck... I guess.

Im so tired of these companies trying to release a poor mans Wii sports or, Wario Wear etc. Nintendo has been working on these so called mini-games for over ten years so Nintendo is better at it and Nintendo bundles Wii sports with the Nintendo Wii so why buy an imitator when you already have the original.

Atleast they are trying something new ... unlike generic fps 5 or generic fighter 6 for the competing systems.

Hm, the Wii gets Family games or in this case games that may appeal to the sports audience yet they are not getting games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Lost Planet 2 or Bioshock 2. Rather dissapointing. I'm still not gonna give up on them though, they do have House of the Dead and hopefully they'll bring that Capcom versus game to the States. I've got my eye on you Wii.

Wow, this sounds like fun... Hey Sega. Tell me when you're ready to make a Saturn or Master System collection, or something with some Sega CD and 32X games (especially Knuckles Chaotix) on it. As for Activision, they died after the 2600, and I don't care what they do now because I already own Activision Anthology, among other, much older, things. I wish they had a device that made shovelware invisible. Then I could go to the store and see all, what, five to ten great Wii games with no distractions of babies with maracas, animals that need love, and all that other crap that's doing it's best to run gaming into the ground.

I am ashamed to see Sega producing such crappy shovel-ware. Sega has sunk to new depths.

WHO CARES? STOP REPORTING ABOUT THESE MINIGAMES. tHIS IS THE REASON THEY EVEN EXIST SO MUCH ON THE WII. seriously if these crappy games got no reports or advertisements no one would buy them and they would stop being made. i hate when this site and other gaming sites complain about the abundance of minigames on the wii, and then give these same games a headline.
