SCEI Gears Up E-Commerce
Sony sets up its Internet business to sell PS/PS2 hardware and software in Japan.
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. announced today that it will form a new company on Feb. 1 to handle online business. The new company, PlayStation.com (Japan) Inc., will begin operation in mid-February just before the PlayStation2's March 4 launch. It will start out selling hardware and software for the PlayStation and the PlayStation2, with plans to expand to music CDs and DVDs in the future. Of course, you have to be in Japan to take advantage of the online store. No word on whether Sony Computer Entertainment America will follow suit by offering a similar online business.
