Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today released the first information on Jinx, a third-person adventure game for the PlayStation currently in development at Hammerhead, whose previous PlayStation games include Blade and Blade .

The titular character in the game is a failed magician who, as the son of an incredibly powerful wizard, has somewhat embarrassingly ended up working as a court jester for King Mamooset XIV. The plot of the game sees Jinx awakening one morning to find that his world has quite literally gone mad. A group of pirates led by the evil Captain Gripply has attacked the world of Ploog using a magical spell that's turned the inhabitants of Jinx's world against one another. The pirates have also kidnapped the royal family and scattered the members of their court across the gameworld, and they're now in the process of stealing as much treasure as they can find.

As the unlikely hero Jinx, who for some reason is unaffected by the pirates' spell, players must locate and rescue the royals--completing secondary quests for other characters, solving puzzles, and fighting off the abnormally hostile inhabitants of Ploog along the way. The game will consist of six different themed realms, each of which has three levels. Before reaching the final level of the game, players will travel through the candy-colored castle of Mamoo City, the waterlogged rainforests of Zonimama, the sand dunes and mock-Egyptian architecture of Pyramidicia, the underwater realm of Aquaquatica, the garish Spookyland, and the pirates' hometown of Buccaneria--all of which will be inhabited by different enemies.

No release date had been announced for Jinx at the time of writing, and a North American release had yet to be confirmed. We'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available.
