Japanese company Nihon SGI (formerly known as Nihon Silicon Graphics) has announced it will separate its computer-graphics division and establish a new company, which will develop motion pictures and game software using advanced digital technology. The new company, Silicon Studio, will consist of about 30 staff members, including CG-related technicians and management from Nihon SGI. Initial funding for the company is about two hundred million yen (about US$1.9 million), 10 percent of which is funded by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). With SCE grabbing a share, it will take charge in the contents and systems development for the new company, and Nihon SGI hopes to expand its horizons in the advancements of CG technology.
