Say goodbye to BioShock Infinite, as its final DLC is out today

Burial at Sea - Episode 2 available today across Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

by

Today marks the release of Burial at Sea - Episode 2, the final expansion for BioShock Infinite. The expansion is available to download today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC as part of the $20 BioShock Infinite season pass or by itself for $15. You'll need a copy of the main game to play the new content.

Burial at Sea - Episode 2 has players controlling BioShock Infinite character Elizabeth in the underwater city of Rapture, the main location of the original BioShock game. You can watch the DLC's launch trailer above.

The first installment in the Burial at Sea expansion launched in November 2013 and scored a 5/10 from GameSpot editor Kevin VanOrd. Episode 2 will be up to six hours long, depending on your play-style, according to creative director Ken Levine.

The Burial at Sea campaign for BioShock Infinite is the final project staff at Irrational Games worked on before it was announced that the studio was effectively shutting down. So what's next for the Boston-area developer? Levine and 15 others are working on a "smaller, more entrepreneurial" project for Take-Two, but that's all we know for specifics.

Levine gave a talk at GDC last week called "Narrative Legos" wherein he discussed general storytelling approaches for game development. You can watch the presentation below.

I have just finished downloading it and am itching to play it. Sad to see the end of an amazing series. Hopefully some company will pick up the franchise and develop something on the new consoles.

This DLC opens a major plot hole and pisses on the franchise......avoid.

Levine ruined the franchise.

It's kinda mediocre. Here are my impressions:

What bother's me the most is the fact that it messes with original Bioshock story...you leave that alone you!

I really hated it, I thought It was the worst ending they could've ever made. I would highly recommend you spend your time and money somewhere else.

Considering I still play the first Bioshock from time to time, I don't think I'll be saying good-bye...

Disappointed to see Ken Levine's creation come to an end.

I guess I will have to say goodbye to the franchise, because I won't touch anything post-Irrational.

Goodbye, Bioshock. I honestly disagree with the general opinions I'm seeing here (probably because I played Bioshock after it came out) in that I think Bioshock was good but a bit overrated, Bioshock 2 didn't get enough credit for what it did right, and Bioshock Infinite left me with an excellent impression. Still, overall it's one of my favorite series of this generation. The first DLC for this was not that good, though, so we'll see how this new one plays out.

I got the game for free with PS+, I have no interest in the DLC.

I said goodbye to this game a day after finishing the main campaign.  That stupid ending left such a bad taste in my mouth I knew I never wanted to play it again.  I can't imagine keeping a game so maybe I can pay for DLC later.

Can't wait to play it. This is one one the best games that came out in 2013 and the Bioshock franchise is one of the all time best

Bioshock and bioshock Infinite did things with story that no games have ever come close to. For a marriage of expert story telling and great gameplay games just don't get better. So sorry to see irrational go I hope the last DLC does justice to the genius of those games. It will take a truly skilled developer to ever produce story telling in games anywhere near the quality of irrational. Good buy to the best at what they did.

Cool, now all I have to do is wait for the game and DLC's to hit 75% off on Steam.

I almost forgot that this DLC was coming out today. The first Episode was good and reviews are making this one out to be better, hopefully that is the case.

The base game I gave a 9.6/10; tied as one of my all-time faves. However, the DLC has been slap in the face one after another, tarnishing the quality of the name.  I'm ready for BaS:II to be the closing, but I really hope it goes out with a bang rather than a whimper. If not, it'd be a sad send off for a company as great as Irrational.

Can't believe I bought this game full price. When all is said and done, it's a pretty game - but very generic.

I think it's like 7 bucks on Xbox Live. Wish I waited...

@TimberWolf_CLT I'm still playing System Shock 2 at least a couple times a year. That sone game I never want to say goodbye too.

@PixelAddict  Well that's just straight ignorant, as you have absolutely zero idea what another company's take on the Bioshock universe would be. Personally, I think they had something great in Bioshock, though I don't feel they ever truly optimized the world and gameplay. Things could have been better done in all three games, including the shooting mechanics and yes, even the narrative. I'd actually love to see another game done, with a similar timeline as the first DLC for Infinite, but with the open world of Rapture accessible from the get go, starting before the downfall of Rapture begins.

Anyways, all I'm trying to say is that it's stupid to give up on a game and idea just because another company will be taking it over. Everyone love to say how awesome Irrational and Ken Levine are, but I found both company and man to be less than perfect, and I'd not say no to seeing what someone else could do. If it sucks, I won't buy, but I'd at least give them a chance. Stop being so close-minded; you sound like a spoiled brat.

@OJ_the_LION Much better. Its at least 3 times longer for starters, and some really good gameplay .

@glez13  you can buy the game for $7 and the season pass for $20

@SaudiFury  the did the same, but now going back and playing bioshock feels very irrelevant.

@mattmp1786 Wow, thanks for that... opinion.

Agree to disagree. And, wow, look at that, I didn't even attack you for having your OWN opinion.

You should try it some time.

@soccerpzn @Jacanuk

Just because he isn't well-known on the internet doesn't mean that his opinion is invalid.  Though I'd assert that Jacanuk is half correct.  Levine actually made two good games: System Shock 2 and Bioshock 1, the latter to which 2K Marin made a competent sequel (after its many bugs were finally fixed.)

Sorry, I just assumed others would know what the word generic meant when pertained to gaming.

As a shooter, it's very repetitive and the AI does barely anything more than run at you to shoot them in droves. The special abilities are more for show and the entire game can be completed with your starter weapon. While the addition of Elizabeth is nice - you still have to manually search every corpse for ammo, cash, mana.

@Sevenizz  So... couldn't find the difficulty setting, eh?

It appears that you playing on easy just hurts all of us, dude.
