Savage goes gold

S2 Games' hybrid multiplayer game, combining first-person action and real-time strategy, will hit store shelves in early September.

S2 Games has announced that the beta testing phase for Savage: The Battle for Newerth is now complete, and the game is officially slated for a September 9 release.

"The beta testing was extensive and went brilliantly," said Jesse Hayes, COO of S2 Games. "Savage benefited tremendously from the excellent input of the beta testers, and we're excited to deliver the gold master."

Savage's Silverback engine was designed to display the same seamless 3D environments, from the close-up perspective of first-person action games to the overhead view common to real-time strategy games. The game lets up to 64 players compete in team battles that pit humans against beasts, and each force has its own tech tree that allows a team commander to research better weapons for improved player fighting on the front lines.
