Koei today announced that Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends has shipped to stores, continuing the slicing and dicing of this year's previous effort, Samurai Warriors. Xtreme Legends is the first expansion to Samurai Warriors, which put a Japanese spin on Koei's long-running Chinese-themed Dynasty Warriors. Both series combine tactical combat with hack-and-slash action, with superwarriors sending hundreds of enemies to meet their makers.

Available exclusively for the PlayStation 2, Xtreme Legends features 19 playable characters, including four new fighters based on historical figures from the Sengoku period: Honda, Princess Ina, Hideyoshi Hashiba, and Yoshimoto Imagawa. There are also three new versus modes (duel, sumo, and gatekeeper), a new battle mode called komaki-nagakute, and new skills and skill items.

Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends is rated T and sells for $29.99. GameSpot's full review of the game has the full rundown on the title.
