Sammy confirms Guilty Gear X PS2

Arc System's highly acclaimed 2D fighter is coming to the PlayStation 2.

Sammy representatives have confirmed with us today that Guilty Gear X--once listed as a Dreamcast release--is indeed undergoing a PS2 port, and is slated to hit stores in September. We've also learned that the Dreamcast version of the game, which was released in Japan this past January, will not see a North American release. Sammy itself is publishing the PlayStation 2 game stateside, and the localization process has purportedly already begun.

The second game in the popular 2D fighting series, Guilty Gear X features crisp, super-detailed character sprites, and a deliberate, yet slightly over-the-top weapon-based fighting system. Many regard the game as the best-looking 2D fighter on any platform to date.

Whether the PS2 version will see any changes or enhancements is as of yet unknown. Again, the game is slated for a September release in North America, so expect more news very soon. Until then, check out our coverage of the Japanese Dreamcast version of the game.
