Saints Row publisher teases 'huge' news for PAX East

New franchise owner Deep Silver suggests major announcement scheduled for event later this month.

Saints Row publisher Deep Silver, which acquired the franchise from THQ for $22.3 million in January, has teased "huge" news for this month's PAX East.

"Dear media: You're going to want to be at PAX East this year," tweeted Deep Silver marketing manager Aubrey Norris. "If not, you're going to be missing out on something HUGE. Just FYI!"

No further details were divulged. One major game in development at Deep Silver is Saints Row 4, which was announced in 2011 as a title that would be "wilder" than Saints Row: The Third.

Deep Silver is not the only publisher planning big news for PAX East, as Capcom will announce two new titles during the industry event. PAX East is slated for March 22-24 in Boston, Mass. GameSpot will be in attendance.

Having owned and played both 1&2 I didn't like them because I'm just not fan of the story line.

I loved SR3 very much for the relax and funny story line. The only thing that sadden me was when I beat the game.

Why do people who liked SR1 & 2 hate SR3 so much?  I'm honestly curious.

Saints Row the Third was very disappointing for me. I've never played the second one. I went from Saints Row to Saints Row the Third, and let me tell you it was a huge let down. The big heads?? C'mon get real. The cartoonishness of it all and even driving mechanics sucked.

Hopefully they take a more realistic, crisper, not-so-out-there approach this time around.

Saints row 3 was a little disappointing, but still had some co-op fun. Either way I will still probably buy Saints 4.

I thought they were releasing a $30 DLC for Saints Row 3 that was going to allow your person to become a superhero or something (I am not trolling I remember hearing about this quite awhile ago).

Can't wait for Saints Row 4. I enjoyed all of them. And Capcom better have good games to come out this year.

Been waiting to see what would happen with THQ's old assets, wondering in which direction they'll all go now that they have new owners. Good luck to all of them.

please have the news be: We're sorry for dumbing down 3rd person open world gaming with our corny over the top slap happy fest garbage we call a game.

I like crime and driving games and gta clones as much as the next person but....they are admittedly taking gaming steps back instead of forward. Saints row feels like it was intended for 13 year olds and humor to match.

IMO....

I just wish they'd slow down the progression. It took like 4 seconds to obtain tanks and have a maxed out gang. Part of the fun to a saints row is growing stronger... not already being superman right out of the gate.

They better be announcing X: Rebirth's release date.

I was a HUGE fan of Saints Row. Played the living lights out of the first and second. SR: The Third was way below par and it was the title which made me regret buying a season pass for a video game.

The only way is up and I am glad the game is no longer in the hands of THQ.

The Third was total garbage so I guess it can't get any worse.

I liked SR3 so SR4 would be a nice addition to already good library of recent open world extravaganza.   Far Cry 3,  GTA 5 coming soon,  Just Cause 3 possibly in development, this might be a good year, add a reboot of Mercenaries (more like 1 less like 2) and it will be gaming heaven for open world lovers.

Want to impress me? Don't fucking nickle and dime me to death with DLC like THQ did.

@jimrhurst Consistently turning the series into a comedy was ridiculous and it just didn't have the feel and appeal the first two did.

wcbigguy4
wcbigguy4

@jimrhurst For me the story was not as good. I like in SR2 you do activities to earn respect to play missions in SR3 you just play the missions. Half the missions in SR3 are just the activities not really part of the story. In SR2 to take over territories you did story missions or strongholds which were their own missions in SR3 you buy stores and properties to take over maybe 40%. Did not like Steelport as much as Stillwater maybe that has to do with them having 2 games to flesh out Stillwater. In SR2 you could decide to be over the top or not in SR3 they shove it down throat. And I can not stand the direction they went with Shaundi could not stand her in SR3.

jimrhurst
jimrhurst

@ligerplease Unfortunately, I think you will be disappointed.  I don't think they can get more out-there than SR3, but from what I understand they aren't planning on coming back to Earth anytime soon.  Maybe out of space and back inside the atmosphere...

@Prats1993 The first SR was a tribute to the GTA series, then they went on their own. I love GTA way more than SR but still, not really the same game. It's like comparing Battlefield and Call of Duty. Sure, they are both war games, but both have two completely different play styles.

Kolo32
Kolo32

@Prats1993 Saints Row 1 was a GTA clone but the rest of the series went a different path. Both series are good regardless.

@boarwar

Nobody that is buying a Saints Row game is doing it because they want another GTA game. If they are, then they just wasted a  lot of money.

@boarwar Look at this. Someone too mature for Saints Row but not mature enough to shut his mouth and let people enjoy their own thing. How unbelievable.

@boarwar I personally think too many games try to be serious anymore, SR3's dumb fun was a breath of fresh air for me.

FollowY0urBliss

@boarwar

Actually, I find the games to be very fun.  But I'd be the first to admit that whether or not a person will like a Saints Row game HEAVILY depends on their personality and the mentality they approach the game with.

@Zloth2 Oh my. Now you got my hopes up, since your post is the only update in years, rofl. Even if it's not true.

jimrhurst

@wcbigguy4 @jimrhurst OMG, I totally hated Shaundi too.  I'm with you on that and the loathing seems to be universal.

I see your point about some of the missions just being the activities.  There was a tricky balancing act with that.  They want to introduce players to all the activities.  So they built them into the mission arc so that players who try to follow the script are forced to at least taste the activities.  Because playing Saints Row by the script would be totally missing the point.  The problem is many players (like me) went crazy with the other activities the instant we were set loose.  So then when we return to the mission arc it seems padded with the activities.

I also agree that the earlier ones allowed you to play it more straight, whereas The Third really just assumes gonzo.  Thanks for taking the time to comment.

@DevilArK1993 @DarkSaber2k At least they don't have a site with a countdown towards when they will announce the date of the preview of the teaser trailer, like some companies do.

cdog21

@LesserAngel

That's what I liked the most about SR3. Since it wasn't trying to be a "serious" type game, it could take the story direction to all sorts of hilarious places.

Celiria_Rose
Celiria_Rose

@LesserAngel @boarwar agreed. Sure Saints Row the third was immature but that was part of its charm. It was nice to have a franchise that wasn't taking itself seriously and wasn't afraid to be immature and ridiculous in the name of fun.
