Saints Row IV anal probe weapon exclusive to season pass

Deep Silver details Saints Row IV season pass as game goes gold.

by

Saints Row IV publisher Deep Silver has detailed the game's season pass content, which includes the "Rectifier" alien probe weapon.

A Deep Silver representative confirmed to GameSpot that the alien probe weapon will be available to all players in one of the game's missions, but only owners of the season pass will be able to use it elsewhere in the tongue-in-cheek open-world title.

The Saints Row IV season pass will be sold for $9.99/€9.99 /£7.99 and, alongside the exclusive weapon, contain two mission packs. The first will be the Enter the Dominatrix DLC, which takes the form of a mockumentary, and the second will be released later in 2013.

The alien probe weaponry is one of the main reasons Saints Row IV was refused classification in Australia, though the Australian government has since said it will consider reclassifying the game.

Along with the announcement of the game's season pass, Deep Silver confirmed that Saints Row IV has now gone gold.

Saints Row IV will be released on August 20 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

I have to admit I never paid SR any attention until I picked up a copy of SR3 full package at a sale. Turns out it was one of the most enjoyable games i've ever played, sure it doesn't have sophisticated storytelling as GTA4 or Mafia 2 but it is a hell of a lot of fun for those who just want to play a game to relax and unwind. This is actually one of my top priority games for this year.

DLC doesn't work the way a lot of people seem to think it does.

Once the developers have finished work on the main game, they start pumping out additional content as a bonus, this work is largely unpaid (that's why dlc costs money).

Sometimes they'll finish quickly enough to include the content on disc (in order to save the gamer time on downloading it), this doesn't mean that they have ripped chucks out of the game in order to steal from the gamer (although I'm sure there are some companies evil enough to do that).

What it means is that the developers have put in extra time in order to add something above and beyond what the game officially ended with.

It isn't a cashgrab, it is the developers being paid for giving more to the game than was expected. If no one pays for DLC then the developers will stop making it.

It's not the best system, but it's not as nefarious as people seem to think it is.

wow I still don't get what is so damned hard about DLC that publishers don't get it.  Dark souls did it right.  Dungeons defenders did it right and no one takes notice.

Don't even hint at DLC until your game is done and out the door and then only if customer feedback shows they want more.  On disc crap like this is how you piss off your loyal customers like myself.  I loved Saint's row 2 and I enjoyed 3 but I won't be getting 4 until a complete edition is released now because of crap like this.

Way to loose my business guys.  All you had to do was not be a total and complete cashgrab.

someone here taking classes from capcom ? they advertise a game with the anal probe, which would mean this is a on disc DLC....ON DISC DLC !!!!!!

in this case DLC = Disc Locked Content !!!

Adding another game to "get it when they release a full version" list....*sigh*

Anybody that pays for DLC like this (and most DLC for that matter) should take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror because they're messing things up for everybody.

Did Deep Silver hire the jackass management  from THQ or is Volition just milking us for every last cent

The Anal-Probe weapon must be one hell of a game-changer.

lol an obvious jab at us + their own publishers courtesy of the devs. They've went out of their way to state it is in the base game and just "anal probing" us by packaging it as DLC

What's an alien game without anal probes?

That's what they say, season pass and DLCs are the anal probe in this industry.

Every developer who chops down the game into pieces to get more money is getting a special treatment from me which is - a purchase only through a Steam Sale :)

I bought the SR3 season pass when all DLCs were released. I got $35 worth of stuff for $20.

I don't think this was planned. This is a response to the prudes in Australia having a rod up their ass about a game where you get a rod up your ass.

Don't buy season passes.  You are PREORDERING DLC.  Who the fuck is stupid enough to do that?

Saint's Row was a good time waster in between GTA's but they're screwing themselves and gamers with this dlc milking.

ZackRoyer

@gamebuyer22 You know, if people don't buy the full package or any DLC, only the main game, the percentage of DLC to game sold will be lower, and this will turn DLC production (or make it appears) inviable to the publishers/developers. In time they will not release more DLCs. Seriously people, you change the market, don't buy "complete editions" or "season pass" because you are increasing the DLC sales and encouraging them to milk more from DLCs, just buy the vanilla game if you really want it.

Waiting for the Full Package and not the neutered one I take it ;)

@VarHyid You're being soft. I'm going to torrent the shit out of this game. Nobody DLC-fucks me.

@Floymin I hope when you say prudes you mean the Aussie government in which case, yes they are prudes. If you mean Australia as a whole then A, You don't know that this wasn't planned and B, If your really upset that they are going to charge a little more to stick a Rod up a virtual players a*** then I feel bad for you son.

Thomas369

@Thanatos2k People who want to save money since season passes are usually cheaper than buying all the DLC's outright. Who the fuck is stupid enough to do that?

Oh, you are... Stupid Fuck.

Maize84

@00black 2 dlc packs for $10 is milking?  Then I'd love to see what you call what R* does with it's dlc for GTA5.  Because Saint's row 4's plans are easily less that what GTA4 made players pay for 2 content packs.

bouff
bouff

@ZackRoyer @gamebuyer22 I disagree, SOME DLC's are good to keep you playing. what they need to stop is releasing DLC that should have been part of the story in the first place

Thanatos2k
Thanatos2k

@Thomas369 @Thanatos2k  You know what'd save you even more?  Not buying DLC.

And if you were really concerned about price you'd wait for the GOTY edition that has all the DLC and costs half the price.

VarHyid
VarHyid

@Thomas369 @Thanatos2k So now "buying DLC" (which most of the time is a part of game chopped out) is "saving money"? Let me guess, when you see a price being crossed out and a lower one below, you really think you're SAVING money, too? Used to work at a mall, that's just a sales technique, the products are worth less than the "new price" and sometimes the "old price" was NEVER real.

rad8045
rad8045

@Maize84 @00black which happened to be two new games with new storys, not stupid anal probes and crap.

@punksterdaddy "Things like this Anal Probe, is clearly taking away from the consumers, only to sell it back to you at an additional price... It's outrageous!"

huh? they haven't taken the Anal Probe away from us, they are giving it to us from the start if we get the Season Pass (we get it in game at some point), its an extra incentive.

punksterdaddy
punksterdaddy

@bouff @ZackRoyer @gamebuyer22

I take both of your points here.

In some cases DLC can be worth it but unfortunately in most cases they are blatantly ripping off Gamers.

The Skyrim, GTA IV and RDR DLC packs are well worth it and ADD more to your gaming experience.

Things like this Anal Probe, is clearly taking away from the consumers, only to sell it back to you at an additional price... It's outrageous!

So I agree with @ZackRoyer in that WE as Gamers, should not buy into this obvious rip off but then I also agree with @bouff that not all DLC is bad.

Deciding on which is a rip off, is the main problem for some.

i.e. I recently bought Tomb Raider and it is a great game but the DLC that is available is shockingly bad! Things like purchasing a silencer for your hand gun, when you get it IN GAME anyway, when you play through the story!

That's the problem (IMO) with Downloadable Content! It's a mostly a CON!

Finding the balance and trusting the publishers is needed here.
