Saints Row 5 in the works?

Actor-comedian Jay Mohr tweets about recording voice work for a "new Saints Row video game."

by

More Saints Row is on the way, it appears. Actor-comedian Jay Mohr (Pay it Forward, Jerry Maguire) tweeted last night that he was in a sound booth to record voiceover for a new entry in the over-the-top open-world action series.

"About to do my voice over work for new Saints Row video game. #showbiz," he said on Twitter with the image at left. Six characters are shown on a monitor in the background, but we can't make out who they are specifically.

It's not clear if Mohr was recording voice work for Saints Row IV DLC or the next full entry in the series, presumably Saints Row V. We asked publisher Deep Silver, which acquired the Saints Row franchise and developer Volition in January, but the company declined to comment.

Mohr is a self-professed fan of video games. He has performed at BlizzCon and co-hosted the D.I.C.E. awards in past year.

Saints Row IV launched in August 2013 and sold 1 million copies during its first week. Deep Silver parent company Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz labeled the game a critical and commercial success, suggesting a sequel is likely.

4 was fun, but I think I liked 3 better. I'm hoping 5 goes back to the Gangsta roots, but I hope it retains its sense of humor.

Well if you guys can't see who the characters are in that picture..

From L to R.

Oleg, Pierce, Shaundi, Protagonist, Gat, Zimos, Angel... and it's a SR3 wallpaper... :D

Most likely it's DLC, given Vogel's model is already hidden in SRIV's game files.

Awesome! just finished the third

If Volition had actually bothered to finish SR IV and sorted the numerous game-ending bugs rather than focussing on sub-par DLC, this news might have been worth caring about...

I still think Saints Row 2 was the best in the series but I'm still a fan of the series and a fan of Jay Mohr as a comedian and voice actor. I guess you win again Volition, you sold me another Saints Row game.

Well, there's nothing wrong with Mohr Saint's Row games.

I enjoyed SR4, but I think I'm done with that series. 4 was identical to 3, they just added super powers.

Maybe I'll rent or buy cheap. They still are really fun games.

I really think SR4 was one of the best games of 2013 and highly underrated, It had everything a real game should have. not a another interactive movie but fun gameplay in a not serious world doing whacky things.

You mean Saints Row 3.2? Saints Row 4 being Saints Row 3.1, of course.

I get the feeling it's gonna be a series reset.  The way the 3rd went was pretty... strange.  It wasn't a bad game but it tried to do too much in the small window it had.  4 felt like they wanted to wash that all away somehow.

4 IMO was pretty damn amazing though.  I did a couple playthroughs to get my main character through and played out Nolan North (which was great).  Laughed all the way through.  Even the "Enter the Dominatrix" DLC, though short, was pretty fun to play especially for that ending).

I hope they make this exclusively for the PS4.

I hope they bring this to PS4. and lets cross our fingers for a true sequel from SR2...... don't get me wrong I had fun playing SR3 + 4 . But after a couple of hours your just left thinking is this it, a half arsed story and not much to do with side missions. with SR4 I was even more disappointed as you could fly-ish but they didn't make the map big enough to take advantage of it.

please just disregard the last 2 games, make it some kind of dream or something to kill the stories off and just expand on what SR2 had going. just do that.

the whole gang storylines SR2 and san andreas had going back in the day were dope.

saints row 2 is easily one of the best games out there. for a sandbox game at the time, there were so many things to do and you actually wanted to do them.

SR always feels like a missed opportunity. It's fun, but the engine runs like junk and the cars handle with no inertia and look like a 4yr old drew them. Shame, cos there's a lot to like with the variety of the gameplay and the customisation.

Need more Saints Row with different worlds modeled after cities and countryside. They need to leave all this space junk out of it. Saints Row 4 felt kinda cheap with the way the vehicles handle and look. Saints Row doesn't have an aliasing issue like GTA has atleast and the graphics could be improved though

This is garbage, probably they will release an expensive dlc again, just like SR4.

Some how in some way they jumped the Bridge with Saints Row 4 and considering 3, that's quite a feat. Still intrigued though.

I was sure Saints Row V would be made at some point, but I didn't expect them to start working on it so soon.  I'm excited for the next entry in the series, but they probably should wait a little before starting to work on this.

Well people get this straight I love Saint Row because not meant to be like gta .  The game just taking the piss out movies and games which think cool.

I think Saint Row 5 need bigger map and need to take piss Back To Future   and bill and ted since next game might something to do with time.

I know last game wasn't all great but didn't have enough time to do next gen because THQ went burst.

Next game be next gen only.

I had mixed feelings about the last one.

I'm not going to lie but SR4 was an ok game I would have played it more but I hate the fact that the side missions were the same thing every freaking time, I also hope they improve the story

Make it next gen and don't make it suck balls like the last one!

If they are making SR5 I hope they up the customisation. I know there are other things that could use improving but it's a shame that it was a step back from SR2. The diversity in how far you could move sliders and how many different pieces of clothing there are is good, just not acceptable when you can see it has been downgraded.

Saints Row is freaking hilarious, and a blast to play, unlike GTA V after you beat it...actually is fun to play...sorry had to be said people...GTA V has like zero replay value....

@juan_samar  Oh God no! That's one of the things that's been done to death. Everywhere I look there's zombie games, tv shows, movies...

jamzrk

@juan_samar  They did a Zombies in Saints Row The Third. Through story progression something happens that causes exposure to something that causes zombies that are locked on a island in the middle of the city with the bridges up. You had to ramp the bridges to get into the area. After you do a mission around there you gain access to call a van to your location that opens and releases a small horde of zombies that will kill things. The virus wasn't really potent. It didn't spread but they did zombies.

So likely they won't do the same trope twice. Unless it's their thing. Which zombies isn't.

@themc_7  I enjoyed SR3 a lot more than SR4. SR4's super powers were great but didn't make up for the depressing story, the lack of day/night, safe houses you can enter, etc.

It was a bit boring knowing the whole game takes place within a simulation and that nothing you do matters because it's all AI.

@alcaclarke believe me they not going too because did it to take piss at matrix and other super hero stuff .

chibi-acer

@AndCarlsen I disagree.  If they're done with Saints Row IV they should start on V now and take their time to do it right.  If they release the next game in 2014 then yes, it's too soon.  I don't see any issue with them starting on it now.

Unless they were to take a break from Saints Row and make a Freespace 3.  In which case then I totally agree!

@kidflash2000I am a bigger fan of the GTA series and loved GTA V...until the end of the game. Agreed, theres nothing to do. The businesses you can only afford if you did some stock exchange fixing early in the game rather than later but thats it. No vigilante missions, no nothing.

@Auriken@jessie82dude, you really got him! I mean...there has been too many GTAs in the last 5 years. I really wish Rockstar would quit flooding the market. At least Saints Row is offering completely new games that is obviously not a reskin of the one before...well...like all of those GTAs between 2008 and 2013. Are you getting the sarcasm yet? I would try saying things that are less stupid.

@cvantuOh the irony. Good job with that utterly stupid remark, because yes I am getting the sarcasm. Because I was also being sarcastic dumbass.
