Rogue Trooper marches on factory

Eidos' comic-inspired sci-fi shooter for the PC, Xbox, and PS2 is golden, on track to ship next Tuesday.

In September 1981, the Rogue Trooper comic strip debuted in the British comic magazine 2000 AD. The grim series of a GI--a blue-skinned, superhuman "Genetic Infantryman"--slogging through the trenches of a brutal far-future war became a cult sensation. It would go through several writers during its initial run, which finally ended in 1996. However, popular demand caused the Rogue Trooper character to be resurrected in 2002, three years after 2000 AD was bought by British game developer Rebellion (Sniper Elite).

During the comic's initial run, two Rogue Trooper games were produced--Piranha Software's 1986 isometric shooter for the Commodore 64 and a 1990 Amiga game from Krisalis Software. In May 2004, Rebellion announced plans to make a third Rogue Trooper game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. Just a few months later, SCi Games announced it would publish the game.

Now, the new Rogue Trooper game is on the verge of reporting for duty. Today SCi-owned Eidos, which will be distributing the game in North America, announced that all versions of the title have gone gold and are being sent to the factory. Rated T for Teen and priced at $29.99, the game is set to ship next Tuesday. For more details, check out GameSpot's recent hands-on preview of a near-final build.

The 360 is being outsold by the PS2 at a margin of 3 to 1. When the PS3 comes out, the 360 will go obsolete, just like how the PS2 whipped the xbox. :-)

Meh...I really don't think this game will be anything that spectacular...even with the $30 dollar price tag.

Its for the PS2+Xbox, not the PS3... thats just a typo. Looks to be on of the best "last generation" console games for the moment, for those consolers who are too poor to own a 360 right now, or too stubborn atleast :)

I already playing that on xbox:)) Nice game, great action and the way you 'making' ammo and grenades (and other stuff) is so cool. But graphic in cinematics and in some areas is sometime very very ugly (it's look like unfinished). Also I can say that is something fresh in RT gameplay:)

E3 lingers... It's funny, all these comments are about the typo and not the announcement.

Wait, subheading says that this game is coming to PS3 and the article says that it's coming to PS2...which is it? (I'm guessing based on the "recent hands-on preview" that it's for the PS2. Somebody must have PS3 on the brain after last week's E3.)
