Rockstar to give GTA Online players $500,000 after technical hiccups

Money could arrive as early as next week.

Rockstar games has said it will provide a "stimulus package" of $500,000 in-game dollars for Grand Theft Auto Online after some of the recent technical issues that have been affecting the game since launch.

The money will be split across two payments to anyone who plays Grand Theft Auto Online in October, with the first payment of $250,000 arriving as early as next week, Rockstar says on its blog.

"In order to keep the current worldwide in-game economy balanced," says Rockstar, "we will be providing this GTA$ to players via two deposits of $250,000. We will announce specific dates as soon as possible, but are currently hoping to be able to make the first deposit by the end of next week (after we’ve confirmed that issues causing game progress loss have been fixed) with the second installment to happen by the end of the month."

Grand Theft Auto Online, the multiplayer component to Grand Theft Auto V, launched on October 1, but users quickly started reporting problems as thousands of players tried to connect.

"For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet."

In order to get access to the money, players must download title update 1.04 when it's released next week, which Rockstar says should also clear up any remaining instances of losing purchased vehicles.

After playing the game in October and downloading the title update 1.04, the money should automatically appear in players' GTA Online bank accounts.

Grand Theft Auto Online's storefront sells bundles of $500,000 in-game dollars for $10/£6.99.

They probably could afford to give players real money after selling 16 billion copies of GTA V in like, two weeks.

Still waiting and still couldn't change my ancestry option from John Marston when I got a 'one off' opportunity to change my character again.

Now...wouldn't it be great if  the money they are handing out was lost for various players due to glitches in their cloud saving function?  I don't know if their fan could take any more dung without breaking..

tbh i think that it's time for peace because it will be best for all us and them, nvidia should approach AMD about this technology and make some kind of contract that they both like, there will be less prices dropping but still every body would get what he wants and every body will profit more than ever. i hope that i could spread the word more till they see this because it's worth it.

After yesterdays patch that totally screwed GTA Online, it looks like R* is gonna be coughing up free money forever.  Gamespot should throw that up in the news, how R* has rendered the Online unplayable again.  Servers aren't saving anything, people losing data and friends lists, and the massive slash in payouts for the missions, its a freaking debacle.

Is anyone finding that you when you start a mission you have to wait an eternity for other people to join when its a public game? This was only like my second attempt to play the game online this evening.

don't know if this is a known bug or anything, but everytime I restart the game, I lose like 10.000 money from the bank.

250.000? I've only been given 20.000..... -.-

@punksterdaddy @Mickeyminime I heard about Rockstar offering 500K to everyone online, but everyone will just get 250K first. I went to see if this was true. I got an update, logged in and discovered i had 20K in my bank and not 250K. I'm only level 3-4 and haven't played it very much at all as i can't seem to get in to it. Not to mention there is very little to offer someone at a very low level. Before the money appeared, i only had a couple thousand on me due to robbing a few shops. I always put my money in the bank right away so i don't lose it. It also helps me keep tabs on what i already have. I'm still waiting for the rest though

@Mickeyminime

I had to install an update today but still no money.

Are you sure that you were given $20,000 because no one I've talked to has?

That'd be kinda nice and all IF I could even connect to rockstar to play sometime this month. Haven't been able to connect for about 3 weeks. "Rockstar cloud servers are currently unavailable" although friends playing.
Ports are open, NAT is open, tried with a direct wired connection (no router), and yet it refuses to connect.

No other games have any issue though.

So although this seems fun. I and many others can't even connect...

To be fair, my experience with GTA online so far (note: i bought the ps3 version for this one)

Trying to stay away from other players... when chased, shoot first... then await for them to come for revenge, shoot them again... wait for more revenge... shoot them again... more revenge... change server, repeat. It sucks balls...

Rob stores (hey a man needs to earn some money... and seeing how apartments are expensive). Rob store, get in car... get shot by other player, have car impounded, ragequit.

Try the same tactic with helicopter, find out someone blew up your f*cking helicopters while you're on your way out. Sigh...

GTA online is one of the worst online experiences i've had since ever... and well it's made me a bigger misanthrope than i already was.
And even if i get the 500.000 (which i still seriously believe is a hoax) it won't improve the experience.

Demanufactur3

Oh and to add... the races make me want to strangle something fluffy ><

@Demanufactur3 i think gta online can be only enjoyed with friends in closed sessions. i was playing missions with 3 other friends and it was a blast. when we went back into free mode, we all spent 20 minutes doing our own thing, buying upgrades, finding cars on the list etc, then we'd regroup and do another coop mission. so i think it really depends on how you approach it to get the full enjoyability of it. but yeah, little kids acting like idiots sucks.

Prithwiraj

@Demanufactur3 Sorry about your bad experiences mate, it can be a bit tight in the beginning. Wait till you hit level 15 where the Survival job type is unlocked. You'll get 15-20k per job easy provided you have good shooters in your team. And when you are in a session with jerks that wanna PK you, just get into passive mode. Use a mic, speak to people, I've met some decent guys online and have pulled off some amazing jobs together.

PS I'm on 1.04 and no money 250k yet, what gives??

punksterdaddy
punksterdaddy

@Demanufactur3

Are you playing the same game as me?

The fact that you are attacking people before anyone attacks you, is really kind of stupid! Since continued bad behaviour only leads to you being considered a badly behaved player. Therefore you will always be placed in the same lobby as other players doing the exact same as you!

You can also join a crew or play in a closed session with friends and/or said crew. Not forgetting that you can activate passive mode, which eliminates the chance of people killing you while on foot.

You have to work in the game to earn the benefits from it.

So again I have to ask you... Are you playing the same game as me?

TIP: Don't go around shooting people, then you won't be put in these lobbies... and join a crew!

It's worth it.

Demanufactur3

@punksterdaddy @Demanufactur3

I'm currently at a point where i trust no one in GTA online.

As every encounter i've had with players since i've started I ALWAYS get shot. Always.
So now if people approach me, i shoot them. Simple.

GTA Online on the ps3 atleast is filled with 90% assholes. So i've decided to stop playing it, altogether.

Also i've been in 2 crews so far, both times the members inside the crew would be gunning eachother down like rabid dogs during online sessions.

vscott453

I don't get all these complaints about gta online being boring. YOU get to play the part of what lester did in the single player. Make up your own rules. Go get the materials you need to complete a job, and MAKE it fun. If you just go and do the missions without being creative, then I guess that is your reason for being bored. But they gave you a playground for a lot of possibilities to enjoy yourself.

And yes things open up, and gets a bit more interesting the higher level you go. But if you not even trying to be creative you can't blame the game. Blame yourself.

vscott453
vscott453

Not to mention the soon to be release creative kit where people can make their own missions. This is going to be like skyrim gta style.

@vscott453

I think of the online portion to be a like portal type environment.

You a fan of Max Payne 3 multiplayer, play Deathmatch and team deathmatch.

Me an my crew just get together and mix it up.  If a session is quiet we cause some turmoil.  Or just fuck with folks.

Place a bounty on someone random.

Need money?  At level 15 do a Boneyard survival run to Wave 10 easy 20k, and a free level plus guns.

Races are a good way to earn some money.  Always join a quick job, hosting and waiting for folks to join you is a bit tricky.  If you host have your crew and friends in your party on your invite list.

This is like a more stremlined version of Red Dead REdemption online, and I was always in love with that.

Rockstar's #1 priority needs to be preventing GTAV's online becoming like GTAIV's absolutely awful online experience. It started out great, and quickly became a playground for hackers and griefers who only found enjoyment in ruining everyone ELSE'S experience.

The "good sport/bad sport" system is flawed, and does NOT work as intended. People are already experiencing unwanted attacks by douchebags. The passive mode is ALSO flawed. You can STILL be killed by people running you over with their cars, and you can still be shot if you are in a car.

Zoomer30
Zoomer30

@dcaseng I got a "bad sport" alert after I won an arm wrestling match and was just waiting for the game to do SOMEthing post game,  then it booted me,  then told me I was a bad sport.   Broken system.

In other news,  UbiSoft officially sucks.

killerspawn

@dcaseng k the bad sport for blowing up cars yeah it needs to be removed I don't mind paying $$ for blowing it up but if you cant pay for it then you get the bad sport

lmao only way I can see that is if you are high level and and the other dude wasn't but that would suck

First time I had played, just found the place in Sandy Shores and decided to play. It glitched after the game and then I'm back in "free roam" getting scolded by a glitchy buggy game.

@killerspawn @Zoomer30 I got kicked by other players while in the lobby (hadnt even played with them before) guess what "bad sport"

getting kicked because some idoit forgot to close the match he was hosting is not fair

join a crew to enjoy the game. playing with random players is just a bad idea. gamespot  has one and so do i, pure carnage 101 for any laid back gamers who are looking to do jobs with a team 18+ only please

killerspawn

@murph85 @killerspawn @arkangelsa that's kinda the point if your only doing missions online then that's different hell ive even seen players in the same crew just turn on there own members sometime I want missions others I want to kill real players

murph85
murph85

@killerspawn @murph85 @arkangelsa Meh i'm just not one to start that kind of stuff. I would rather work with people and do missions or race than randomly kill someone and deplete their bank account.

killerspawn
killerspawn

@murph85 @killerspawn @arkangelsa 2k lose rob 2 stores your good not a big deal however if they fix you lose anything over 5k then that's gonna be a problem I think ive paid around 250k in hospital bills since you lose the 2k when u die anyway (and don't for get the bountys for stealing cars players like that cash)

DeanoFantasy
DeanoFantasy

I also don't see the point in buying property in the game, whats the real point in that, sure its there but... there just isn't any worth in spending all that cash, I have a two car garage that's it.

@DeanoFantasy HO CHI SOCK-you cant have jacks pee pee

vscott453

@DeanoFantasy What happens when you want more then 2 cars? 400k is nothing compared to the price of getting 10 supercars.

DeanoFantasy

Its still bad that money is still vanishing from peoples accounts though, I had $70.000+ saved and only about $20.000 the day later, If they are giving us $250.000 one week and $250.000 then next how can we be sure it wont just stay safe if we don't spend it right away?? :(

My experience with Online has been a lil luke warm.  just started playing last night...  I don't quite "get it" yet.  I find its a real struggle to get people to actually PLAY properly with me-  most people seem to be content to just run around shooting the crap out of each other or spawn killing me over and over, lol.  Anyone have suggestions to make this game fun?

Sarg1010
Sarg1010

@pip3dream I'd say start a private session and then try to join a mission or two. That might work. But yea, there are a lot of jerks online.

@pip3dream Join/create a crew and only play with them...That's what my friends do and it works out great.
